Hi guys just thought I'd give you all an update on my 'journey' As some of you may be aware I was dx with breast ca in 2000 had lumpectomy and chemoradiotherapy and have been having regular 6 monthly checks ever since all been ok up till now - just been dx with DCIS (ducal carcinoma in situ) thankfully this is PRE cancer so all I need is mastectomy (bilateral - my choice)   But most importantly for me NO chemo.

From an ovca perspective still NED (dx stage 2C June 2010)

cyber hugs to alllllllll

    Michelle,

there is a cohort of women on this board who've had both breast and ovarian cancers...are you BRCA positive? I found out I was BRCA2 after the ov dx.  I had ov ca in 2011, and am ned from that so far, and breast ca in 2012, needing only a double mastectomy, Herceptin for a year and Arimidex for 5 years. All in all, the breast cancer diagnosis was much less devastating than the ovarian...and the surgery is much easier, and the treatment for it as well.. Here's hoping that your journey is an easier one too. Keep us in the loop!

    We should form a sub-chapter

"Double trouble", "Double whammy", "Teal'n'Pink", "BRCA-licious"

My BRCA1 mutation is called 185delAG (Ashkenazi). What are yours?

Michelle, I'm very grateful for your guidance. Good luck!

I saw my breast doc & plastics doc today - discussed DIEP & other options  what was the recovery like following your surgery & have u now got a nice flat tummy?  Did u also have a vertical scar on your stomach from ovca surgery - I am going to have a CT on my stomach area where they would take the skin from for reconstruction just to make sure it's viable - did u have this too??

    DIEP

    Dear Michelle,

In 1993 and 1998 I had c-sections. In 2001 I had 2 lumps removed from my rt breast. They were cancerous, but encapsulated and no chemo required. In 2012 I had my debulking surgery for ovarian cancer. So my body has several scars. Since I had a serious belly infection after the IP chemo, I was not a candidate for implants.  So I chose DIEP over going flat. I had the CT scan to make sure all was well to transfer the belly fat to the breast, and my CT scan went well. I had an 11 hour surgery on June 25. I have a scar on my belly that goes past one hip to the other hip and then the key hole scars on my breasts.  I did have some necrotizing skin on my belly and lt breast from the surgery.  Those areas have healed well and look red like burns and continue to heal. I am set for my second surgery Nov. 7.
