chemotherapy and not wanting to talk or do anything

in Lung Cancer #1

Hye,

 

Dad is running on chemotherapy, i realized this chemo has made him talk less, like he doesnt interact much , he answer questions in one word answers only. I dont know if hes depressed or something but from the way i look at him he looks kinda fine. any idea what i can do to make him interact more.

    Sorry you had to find us.  Chemo make you feel bad and there are meds that can be taken to counteract nausea.  Sleep is what I mostly did.  I was already on anti depressants so depression wasn't an issue but it could certainly happen while going through treatment and experencing all  of the shock associated with a diagnosis of lung cancer.  Very scary, your dad probably would benefit from talking to other cancer survivors.  A very good sight is Inspire lots of survivors there.  I wish you and your dad well.     The advice Lori gave is golden. Chemo wore me out and it got worse as it progressed.  How is his fluid intake?  Dehydration can make it worse.  Even being vigilant I managed to become dehydrated.  The way to check is to gently pinch the skin on the forearm.  If it remains tented for a moment after you let it go he is dehydrated so call the dr.  

    After he finishes chemo his energy will come back slowly.   What kind of chemo is he receiving.

    Yeah i always run the dehydration test on father, he is good ,maybe slightly dehydrated , but nothing out of the ordinary. his psych is pretty great,but ever since  he started running on "alimta" known as pemetrexed , this started to happen. now ive read that one of the side effects of alimta is mental fatigue, so i guess it might be it.
