  I know you guys have to be out there somewhere. Please post and let us know how things are going. Just an update would be great. Even a smiley face would do. Laughing We worry miss Ya'  John

    Hi john

    I posted something recently regarding Vinny.  He sent a message on 7/18 explaining he's been taking a mental health break from the site - which we all understand.  He's been experiencing some dizziness and vertigo and has an appointment with the doctor on Wednesday (7/31).  Maybe we'll hear from him after that. Good luck on your appointment Vinny.  I miss folks too.

    I worry about Liana too.  She was preparing for a SCT at Stanford, so I hope things are going okay.  Know you may be in the middle of everything Liana and very sick.  Just know we all think about you and hope the very best.  We keep you in our thoughts and prayers, Becky

    So many...

    There are so many folks that have just dropped off of the site. I always worry about everyone that hasn't checked in. Hope one of these days they will check in. It's been a long time since we heard from sweet Maggie!   Sue

      I checked and Maggie has not even signed on since March. They have to sign in to the site to see if they even have any mail. May be time to worry since she has never gone this long without touching bases with us. The last I remember she was talking about hip surgery. I can think of several other members that were here when we joined that no longer post at all. Shutterbug ( Denise) has not posted in a year or longer. Frown  John

    Hi Max.  I know exacly what you mean.  Fortunately, I have been weaving baskets for some time myself Cool. Sanity is overrated anway ;).

    If you want to become "world-class" in basketweaving, drive down to Charleston (where I grew up), and watch the old sea island women weave.  It is an ancient African art that they brought to America. They make a fortune off of those pieces.

    Charleston is also noted for the finest wrought-iron work in the US, another skill refined by the former slaves. You see their legacy all over downtown Charleston and Savannah, in the ornate wrought-iron fences and gates.  The sea islands of Lowcountry SC have the richest remaining Gullah culture in the New World.  Over 70% of all slaves imported into North America arrived at Sullivan's Island, SC -- just across the harbor from Fort Sumter.  I got off track a little, perhaps, but nowhere else is like Charleston. I miss it a lot.

    If anyone plans a vacation to Charleston, send me an e-mail and I can give some real money-saving tips.  I used to give tours of the College of Charleston area, when working there years ago. One of the most beautiful campuses in America. Founded in 1770, the old courtyard area of the school housed Revolutionary War soldiers.

    Max, you sound like you love Charleston as much as Pat Conroy does. I've been there many times and have seen the gorgeous baskets you are talking about. It is a romantic and beautiful city steeped in history. How about a Benne wafer?

    I went to grad school at the Citadel, Pat's school (I did not do undergrad there - could never have handled the Corp of Cadets).  Pat, of course, is intensely disliked there.

    I now live a few hundred miles away, but get down to my mother-in-law's, since she still lives there.

    My wife is from Charleston also; we have kids that are "100% Geechie," if you are familiar with that term, which refers to a Charlestonian with that old, French-influenced drawl.
