Hi,

Recently diagnosed as stage 4, metastatic, triple negative and currently taking Xeloda.  Would love to hear from others who have had good success with other oral drugs as we would prefer this to traditional chemotherapy. Thanks so much!

    Oral or Infusion

    Dear Cocopuff1,

I don't think it matters whether they are oral or by infusion chemotherapy.  The hope is that they work for a long, long time.  Xeloda seems to be what they offer first.  I was unable to do use Xeloda, as I take Methotrexate (for uveitis not cancer) and take folic acid along with it.  There was a compatibility problem with folic acid.  The next on my oncologist list was Taxol, so I am on that one.

One oral chemotherapy that my oncologist talked about was something called Metronomic Chemotherapy which is a combination of two oral drugs:  methotrexate at a low dose twice a week and cytoxan daily.  It works best if you have not had to many chemotherapies.  My oncologist has had good luck with one of her patients doing well on it for over a year.  I don't know if I can really use it as I have had Methotrexate for over 6 years on a weekly basis and at times via injection form.  You might check with your oncologist about Metronomic chemotherapy.  I have been doing online research on it and some do well and some don't as in all drugs.

    Best to you,

    Doris

    CocoPuff1 ...

My prayers go out to you, dear Sister in PINK ... Doris has provided valuable information, which I were in your shoes I would bring information forward to my Oncologist.

If you have ANY doubts about the treatment plan  -- ask, ask, ask.   If you Oncologist doesnt feel your input is important - seek a 2nd opinion with another Oncologist - insurance permitting.

Come here often, as we are here 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to lend you support.

Strength, Courage and HOPE for a Cure.
