How long does sore throat last?

For anyone who underwent radiation treatment for tonsil or base of tongue cancer, how long did your throat remain sore after treatment?

    Oh gawd, honey....

you're going to get so tired of hearing this.....the same old answer for so much with this cancer.....everybody is different :).  My throat and month were a mess for about a month out, then it seemed to pretty much disappear in a week.  A number of things were still too stingy to eat or drink, but the actual soreness  was gone.

    Bit different for everyone...

Are you still using something to get through ?  I had to use a mixture of things for several months.  You will get through to the other side of this I promise you.  Hugs sent !  Katie

    How Long

I am a little over 9 weeks post treatment for tonsil stage 4, 7 weeks radiation and chemo (cisplain).  About week 7 I was able to eat a full meal (with some pain), chicken, baked potatoe, veggie.  Before, after a few bites, my throat hurt too much to continue.  Then week 8 things took a turn for the worse.  Got thrush again and throat hurt to the point do not want to swallow.  Went to the ENT and was scoped.  Thrush gone within 3 days, but pain still there.  No food, no smoothies, nothing but water and that hurts.  ENT says throat doesn't look bad and cannot determine why the pain.  In summary, got better, was going to have the peg tube yanked after week 7, and then the setback which I am still suffering through with no relief in sight.
This has been my experience (ongoing).

    Long Time

I'm almost exactly six months post treatment with Sq Stage IV BOT w/n2c.  I had a sore throat, and used pain killers daily for almost a full four months post.  Just when I thought it was over, I'd get some new pain that the doc's said was normal.  I haven't had more than grade 2 pain for some weeks now.

    Hope that helps,

    Joe

Just an idea... I haven't underwent any of these treatments, but someone mentioned that sucking on Manuka Honey which can be bought from health food stores helps.  Can't speak from experience, but may be worth a shot!  Hope you heal up quick so you can get back to enjoying that wine you love!  (Think I read that in a former post of yours) Prayers :)

    Honey

Honey was one of the few things that I could swallow without pain after surgery and treatment and it's good for you too!
