sister with horrible rectal pressure

I'm so sorry to hear about your sis.  I can relate.  I had my rectal tumor removed in April. I had chemoradiation to shrink the tumor (it did) prior to surgery.  No bag.  Recovered well from surgery and started post surgery chemo two weeks ago. Just had Round 2 of FOLFOX.  I am not doing well now that chemo has started.  Terrible rectal pressure. Severe diahrrea for hours a day with extreme cramping pain.  Rectal pressure for hours...  I just took a pain pill, which I don't like to do, and it helped a little.  I, too, would like to know if anyone else has experienced this - and what worked for them.

It started with the FOLFOX treatment, so I'm sure it's chemo related.  While it's been 7 weeks since surgery and I've healed very nicely - the drugs attack the weakest sections - and I still have some internal healing to do, I'm sure. The drugs really do a number all through the GI tract - starting with mouth sores all the way through...Alot of my pressure and pain is diahrrea related - as it's been very severe from the drugs.  But I still have ongoing bouts of rectal pain and pressure even when I'm not experiencing diahrrea.  Doc's don't know everything.  They just write it down and offer drugs to help.  They are still learning, that why it's called a medical "PRACTICE"...   Plus, everyone reacts differently to drugs and treatments.  Our chemical make ups are all different. So, it's a trial and error thing.

Mine was also rectal and my pressure was terrible too.  They gave me pain meds that helped somewhat but those can also make you constipated.  Even though my rectum was removed, the radiation was a lot of my problem with pain and pressure.  Try a sitz bath too.  It kind of gets the mind off the pressure.  I'm not sure what else to suggest but it did take me about a year before it resolved itself.  Hope she feels better soon.
