Stuck in hospital

A trip to the ER on Wednesday night with fever of 101.7.  My wbc was 0.5.  I have been in lock down (reverse isolation) ever since.  Have gotten neutrogen x 3, antibiotics, iv zofran,  diflucan (thrush),  valtrex (to ward off shingles - so far so good), etc.  Also blood transfusion yesterday. Finally feeling better today and hoping they may let me leave if all my cultures are negative.  Yesterday's wbc 0.8 but no neutrophils yet. Don't expect rapid improvement there.

Miss you all and think happy thoughts that maybe I'll get home today!

    Hi CC,

Sorry for your trip to the hospital.  As you know I was in the hospital a few weeks ago and had a blood transfusion and a bunch of other stuff.  I was in reverse isolation also due to low CBC's.  When I saw my primary care doctor two days after being set free, I told her I was still so tired.

She ordered an iron test to be done with the blood tests given prior to chemo.  Low normal is 20 and mine was a 9.  I needed an iron transfussion and now only beginning to see the effects.  Why not ask them to look at your blood iron level.  Of course it could have been because I had internal bleeding with the ulcers or it could have been the chemo.  I had to spend another 3 hours for the iron transfussion that week.  Just a thought and as a nurse you might also think it doesn't applied.

I am sorry that your first bout with the combo landed you in the hospital.  Will they lower the dosage for the next one?  I hope all cultures are negative and you can be release.  There is no place better than HOME.

    Best to you,

    Doris

Well, this is just plain unacceptable!

No! No! No!  I hate that this happened on your very first cycle.  And, of course, I hate that it happened at all.  What will be the plan for continuing this regimen?

Sending lots of prayers and hugs.

    Just not acceptable!

You get yourself out of that hospital.  You absolutely can not spend Mother's Day in the hospital.  I'm sorry you are having so much trouble with your chemo cocktail but I hope it doesn't ruin your special day.  Something tells me you were and still are a fantastic mother and deserve so much better.  I hope you are home by now resting comfortably in your own bed.

    HUGS!!!
