Hi All! Checking in!

I've chosen to stay away for a bit to get my head right and to get ready for my surgery.  I now wonder why I decided to stay away.  I think it was the fact that I was making OTHER PEOPLE uncomfortable (like my wife and grand daughter) in researching and chatting with everyone.  They convinced me that I was becoming obsessed and maudlin.  I am so glad to be back. I think I'll just stop sharing information. I thought they would be as relieved about what I learn as I am. Now I know I was simply scaring them.  I am more hopeful now than ever.

I am set for a hand assist laparascopic radical nephrectomy on my right kidney on May 14.  I expect to be back here checking in on a daily basis from now on.

One silly question, well, maybe not too silly. I am scheduled to give the bride away at a wedding in Denver on June 21.  Any advice negotiating TSA that soon after my surgery?

Yes!  The people who strip search anyone with anything that isn't specifically mentioned in their handbooks! LOL

    You should be fine

That's nearly 5 weeks after your surgery. You should not only be able to navigate TSA without problems (maybe slower than some), but you should be able to dance at the wedding as long as you don't Twist or do the Locomotion. Maybe stick to a slow waltz...

    No Problem

You will be fine.  I traveled to a wedding 6 weeks later and had no problem.  Of course I pushed it too far with false bravado and felt a bit under the weather for a few days after I got back,

My wife and yours are on the same page on this issue.  I think I have read everything published on Stage 3 Grade 3 RCC and I know I am at high risk of reoccrrence.  Frankly I had no idea what a kidney even did before last September.  These folks on the board have courage knowledge and experience.  There is no substitute for any of these,

    Good Luck

Hope everything goes real smooth concearning your upcoming surgery and recovery.Your wife and grand daughter might think just a little different if maybe they were told recently they had cancer, its something thats not all that easy to get used to.

    Good luck with your surgery,

Good luck with your surgery, it will soon be over with. I waited six weeks for mine, to begin with I refused to talk about it but as it grew closer I would not shut up. I think in some ways it is very difficult for family members to deal with. They naturally want to protect you but something like this makes them feel so helpless and inadequate. It is a difficult situation all round.

    All the best
