Would like to know how long was it before the longest incision stopped bleeding?  I was operated on the 11th and today is the 15th and still bleeding through the gauze pads and on to clothes.  Is this normal do you think?

Hi Sable,

I agree with Texas, you should probably get your incisions checked, particularly if it is bleeding enough to penetrate the gauze. I had the gauze removed two days after coming home, they were all dry. I was left with just the little tape strips which held the drain site closed, they came off in the shower.

How are you feeling, has the pain eased any? I still get the odd sharp reminder, but it is much better. I have a problem with acid reflux after eating, which I did not have before. I think it is because my stomach still feels like it has been moved up under my ribs. 

It helps to read up on how others recovered from this op, it gives us an indication of what to be mindful of. We do all heal differently though and our bodies will take their own time. Many things will factor into it, age, health, previous surgeries. We are lucky to have the support of others that have been through this though.

My experience

I had a robotic radical. Keyhole around my belly button and 4 small incisions to the left. Out of the hospital after 2 nights, but probably could have stayed 3. Took a few weeks to be able to function and a few months to get back to normal, but was still better off than my Dad who had the shark bite version. He was in the hosital for 10 days and took a long time to recover. Mine was performed by Dr. Jonathan Coleman at Memorial Sloan Kettering in NYC. I think Dr. Coleman is a rock star.
