hi i could sure use some advise, insight if anyone has had this experience, my sister was admitted to icu from doctors office 9/10/12, diagnosed with aml 9/11/12 and began chemo that day as she was very sick and told she would die within a couple of days without the chemo at the rate her wbc were increasing, i believe she was on a 7 day iv drip not sure of the chemo name. To make a long story short she is still in hosp.as of today 11/12/12 and has been in and out of icu to oncology floor with complications of fluid on lungs and heart, having to have the fluid drained off several times, she is in remission but has never been able to build up her own platelets, they have to give her blood and or platelets daily, she was unable to breath and walk until a couple of days ago after they drained her lung again (she was horribly sick for a couple of days) then finally her lungs were clear and she was dizzy but made it down the hall, the first in 2 months. She is diabetic on an insulin pump 58 yo, has no apetite. the doctor told me a couple weeks ago he is afraid he will lose her an now he says he wants to get her well enough to come home for a couple of days then send her to a bigger hosp to see about bone marrow transplant. This is very hard for me to understand why she cant build up platelets an get somewhat healthy after the chemo.

While I have no insight to
While I have no insight to share as to why she can not build up platelets I want you to know that I will be thinking of her.
I think it is encouraging that her doctor wants to send her somewhere else and is not giving up.
  • Hi,Im not very sure if this
Hi,Im not very sure if this helps but papaya leaves help to boost up the platelet count. Please consult your Dietician/Doctor for their recommendation and direction strictly before giving it. Do not self prescribe. Hope it helps. Thanks and may God bless you..

    Type of AML

What type of AML did you have?  My husband has AML M5 and they suggest a BMT/SCT.  I just want to find someone that can help me to understand why he might need one.  He is in remission as of now.  We are seeking a second opinion to find out if he truely need the BMT/SCT.
