    lots of controversy on this

Ok, so it's subjective but i was told about all the forementioned creams and my nurse pushed Calendua cream. She said that the ladies at the hosp that went through breast cancer tx's swore by this product. I started it after one weekd of rads and applied it daily after tx's. My neck looked really well and at the end of the 30 tx's, i had reddish/brown color with minor to no pain/burning and little flaking/peeling. No cracking in the skin which is crucial! Once the skin cracks, it makes for lots of discomfort!

So, calendua is natural marigold extract and can be purchased at almost any natural food store.

    Hope this helps!

Thanks 'gator' and to all who have replied so far.

I could be off on my thinking but it just makes sense to me that there are some things that can be done to mitigate the side effects of my treatment if I get an early start.

I have read stories on the web where people have complained about terrible neck problems and in those cases they were prescribed medication after the damage was done. That is why I asked about the creme/lotions.

I have read where people have come down with terrible sores in their mouth and throat and were prescribed medication after the fact.

I am hoping to keep my side effects under the best control I can.

I have been brushing my teeth and rinsing my mouth ( salt/soda) 5 times a day since day 1.

I feel trouble is on the way though. My throat is starting to get sore. My doctor said he will prescribe something when things get tough for me.

I don't want to wait another day if there is something elese I could be doing ?

    Any ideas ?

    Thanks for help.

    Neck lotion solutions

I have a very old fashion husband who would never consider using lotion or creams. when his neck began looking like elephant hide, his ENT oncologist insisted he submit to some form of treatments. 3 weeks later his skin was perfect. Our solution...Crisco in a can. I would put it on his neck, softly efoliate, then apply more for him to sleep in. His oncologist was so excited, she said she couldn't wait to share with the dermotologists. It worked like a charm & didn't bother his "manly" requirements LOL

I used to put fresh aloe vera
I used to put fresh aloe vera (cut a small piece in half and apply directly) right after treatment. When i got home, during day time i would put calundela cream and at night time, i used to put lot of aquqphor cream. This kept the skin really good.

Also make sure you have washed out the creamn completely before the rads else it cause burn.

For lips, i always used aquaphor lip repair and still use it.

I also used mugard thru out treatment and it really helped. Towards the end, for last week..nothing helps..everyone gets some mouth sores...but mugard does reduce the intensity. I also added caphasol in last two weeks.
