Texas we could be distantly related...my maiden name is Flood!!!!

    Irish

My father was adopted by his step father. His name became Fox. His birth name was Driscoll. All I think I know about my ancestors is that they had emigrated to Canada and were fur traders. Eventually ending up in Connecticut. (I don't even know if that is accurate.) My mother 's maiden name was Welsh.

I have a small family with no history known of grandparents, cousins or the like. That's how one becomes "One of a kind."

And you sure did a great job of that, Larry!

Wild Canadian fur-traders also fits the image quite well too!

    Wow

That must be why you're such a looker Eims (you see, I'm learning by sitting at Fox's feet!!)

(By the way, Fox has Irish ancestry but I'm claiming the closer ties to you!)

How common a name is Flood over there? Is it commonest in the S.W. ?

I sometimes have a sense of foregathering doom - all of a sudden everyone from my past whom I've been out of touch with for anything from 30 to 50 years is contacting me - like relatives foregathering round a deathbed.  The last few days I've been in close touch with my best friend from undergrad days, 50 years ago, and chums from Edinburgh Uni weight-lifting club 30 years ago (all due to wives who tracked me down via the Web, through my Wife's unusual name).

Then, a couple of days ago, a lady emailed me out of the blue and we instantly established that we are related.  She'd been doing some genealogy research and established that upline from her is my great grandfather, born in Devon, England in 1805.  Turns out that her own grandfather was my uncle and we'll stay in touch and exchange genealogical leads.

Unfortunately that's my Welsh side, not my Irish, so it won't throw any light on whether you and I are related - but it's a small world, isn't it!

Well,  Eims, you must have done something very naughty to get surrounded by the "bad boys" of our forum, as Alice has labelled them.

That's interesting history by the way, isn't it?  It was even better if your name started with B.  Do you know where the Bamas originated?

Of course not all of them thought of the dodge of dropping the O !

    Hardly educational...

The nonsense our political opposites spew about each other on this side of the pond is much closer to pure fiction

I should probably have added TFIC to my comment above, lest someone take me seriously

    Genealogy - Small World

On my mother's side were Ooleys and Pattersons. I believe Ooley is an Irish name (?) and my great grandfather's family originated in the UK.

My father's side immigrated from Germany. Their name was Groce (a variant of Gross).

But both sides came to the US a long, long time ago. I'd say over 200 years ago. It's an interesting topic.
