    Thanks All...

Should know something late tomorrow on the CT...

Looks like the thyroid might be acting up again... TSH was at 9.9 after being in range the last two blood tests. They didn't run the Free T4 though, so they called me to take another blood test tomorrow.

TSH has been elevated before, not more than 7ish, but Free T4 has always stayed in normal ranges...

Will know more either tomorrow or in a week or so when I see my chemo onc.

    Best ~ John

    John,

Good, I can take you out of my shoe.  Good thing I don’t wear voodoo shoes or you would be hurting.

You start throwing TSH and T4 levels like I understand; well now I do.  They seem a bit high are you feeling it.

My thyroid is being monitored; I might be joining you soon.

Glad to hear “alls well” in Tampa.

    Yo...Blood

TSH and Free T4 are the two main indicators for thyroid function on blood tests. TSH normal levels are in the 0.5 - 5.5 range, but 9 or so isn't alarmingly high. And I guess hormones aren't exactly a well understood science at this point.

One person can have a 10 level TSH or higher and be fine..., another can have a normal TSH level and have thyroid problems.

I actually feel better now than when they were in the 7 ranges a few years ago..., they had dropped back to 5.4 the last test six months ago. But normally once the thyroid starts heading south, it usually doesn't recover. It's usually very controlable with Synthroid or similar synthetic meds.

I don't know any of the other results as of yet though...

    Hey John,

You're right the hormones on the thryoid are hard to figure....but can be handled easily if you need the replacements.  I have a thyroid profile done once a year.  incompasses the T3, T4, and the TSH.  I have a T3 done every 3 months and have for years, as my body is one that doesn't like the synthetic meds.  I stay at between 1-4 range.  But had mine isotoped years ago.  Good luck John, and waiting to hear on the NED soon !  Katie

I'll be watching for your news!

    John,

So glad you will get your results quickly!

Still saying prayers for your NED.

Here you went and found something I haven't studied on the thyroid! Dans was tested yesterday for the first time. 7 weeks out of tx and his TSH is .0345 and free T4 was 1. Not really off, I don't think.. we will see what his dr says on Monday.

Good luck with the results, and we will be here waiting to here!

    Thanks Kari

and others above and below, LOL...

I think it actually takes the thyroid a year or two befoe it starts showing the hit from rads...

It's not uncommon at all for most of us that had the rads to have the thyroid crap out...

Katie, I trie the minimal dose of Synthroid a year or so ago, but I felt I was having problems with elevated pulse rates and BP..., will have to see what does down if it's still high. My presumption is that if the Free T4 is still normal, she'll wait and see.

I hope everything comes out NED and better than ever!

Ironically, my hubby had half of his thyroid removed 2 years before his cancer.  The docs said they were sure his thyroid would burn out, since he only had one lobe, but he's now at 2 years post surgery/radiation and he's still got good levels.  Go figure
