Good News Today

in Anal Cancer #1

Last weeks ct showed a spot on my right lung, and lymphatic involvement.  Had a petscan today, lung is good YEA!  Only 1 lymph node involved (inguinal).  Still IIIB which was a little disappointing but better than it could have been for sure. 

Colonoscopy tomorrow, port next week and then full steam ahead to kick this dude's axx!

    That's very good news about your lung.  PET scans can be very good for ruling out questionable findings on a CT scan.   Do not be discouraged by the 3B staging.  I have known many with 3B who are thriving!  Good luck on the colonoscopy and port placement.  Let us know how everything goes.   I wish you all the best!

    Good news...

    Thats great news on the lung concern. Remember I was 3b with pelvic node two years ago, doing GREAT today! You will too!!!

    Thanks everyone.  

    Colonoscopy was fine (as far as I know I was asleep:) removed a polyp and sent it off to be observed and discected by thousands no doubt!  Wanted to do an MRI to look further at the lymphnode but can't do that as I have 2 rods, 2 plates and 6 skrews in my back, so will biopsy instead.  

    It felt good to think that next Tuesday's port placement was my only appt next week but now they are piling up.  

    Did learn that I will have to have a rectal exam every week to check for burns, is that the norm?  Made me want to screamFrown

    I hope the polyp biopsy will come back clean.  As for appts. piling up, you are in our club now--that's pretty normal.  Cry  As for rectal exams during treatment, my doctors did not do that and I can't imagine having to go through that.  I don't understand why they would do those on you during that time.  I would definitely ask if that's necessary.  My first rectal exam after my diagnosis didn't take place until a few weeks after treatment ended.  At that time, I tolerated it well.  Please keep us posted.  I wish you all the best!

    I will definately question it, they are pretty miserable right now can't imagine how much worse they would be if I were to be burned.

    Agree With Martha

    I had DRE(Digital rectal Exam) a few weeks after final treatments and it even hurt then.  I cannot imagine having DREs particularily in weeks 4-6.  I would question why the doctor needs to perform a DRE weekly.  The doctor should be able to examine your external burns rather than performing the invasive DRE during this time.

    thanks, I definately am going to question/object to his reasons.  When the surgeon did it on day 1 it was painful but since the biopsy spot is still raw the recent exams have been ungodly.  Thank goodness for this board and somewhere to pose questions like this because it just didn't seem right and now I know, it isn't!

    It doesn't make any sense to do a rectal exam on someone while they are receiving this type of treatment to check for burns.  I would say there is probably a 99% chance that you are going to get somewhat burned on the inside and I see no reason for causing more irritation to that area.  The degree to which you will burn, of course, is unknown--everyone is different.  I would object to such an exam.
