Could I use your other shoulder?

My onc just called with my latest CA 125 and it went up again from 40 to 72.  She is offering me another drug, I can't remember the name right now.  I thought she said samara but when I googled I found Synarel.  That might be it.  She said if the numbers get too uncomfortable for me or if I start to feel anything, I can choose to start chemo.  I told her I would prefer to try another drug.  She thinks that is the best since the Tamoxifen lowered my CA 125 for three months so it did work.  She said maybe a second-line drug will work for me.  She also said it has more side effects than Tamoxifen such as joint pain or accelerating osteoporosis.  She does not feel a petscan is necessary at this time which is fine with me.

What fun!  I am taking it well, what else can I do?

    Dear Karen

Damn this cancer!  I know how discouraging it must be to learn that your CA 125 has risen again.  However, I am very hopeful for you that the new, second-line drug will do the job, with minimal side effects.  I'm rooting for you and you know that you can always use my shoulder!

    Hugs,

    Kelly

    Ca rising

    Karen

im with you. My number at beginning of January was 73. Onc said we could start chemo whenever I wanted. Well, that would be never but I wanna live a little while longer. So since I feel good I'm delaying chemo for a bit.

Yeah, it stinks but what can we do. Worry doesn't seem to work so I try hard to refocus my thoughts.

Also some women have went for months with a rising ca before starting chemo. So enjoy your self before chemo.

    praying you and me

So sorry your numbers are climbing

I agree with your decision to postpone second line chemo for as long as possible to preserve quality of life. I would have done the same thing.

I think your doctor was talking about Femara ( letrozole), an aromatase inhibitor.

    Stay strong Karen

    You're right, Alexandra

I just looked up my prescriptions and it lists Letrozole.

    So sorry, Karen

I know how discouraging it all is but I think it is good that it is caught early and maybe wipe it out now before it has time to cause trouble. Maybe it wont take long. Prayers!

Sorry this post is late, I have been moving and not been on the site. I don't know what I would do in your situation ,I don't like the doctor giving me the choice she is the expert I want her to tell me what she would do. She did do that to me when a biopsy came back negative and she still thought it was positive and she was right a second biopsy 3 months later came back positive. But the wait was not a bad choice so go with your gut feeling.

I think we get to a place where we accept that we have this (horrible) disease and just do what we have to . I wish you the best and hope you are feeling well.

Hi Karen -  Just  wanted to say hi and see how you are doing?

    I am doing well.

I do find I am not my usual upbeat self but I know I'll bounce back.  I have to quit relying on this %&*# disease to man up and leave me alone.  I haven't received my new meds yet, I get them by mail.  It's been a week but with the weekend and holiday I guess it was delayed.

I am getting ready to leave for Weight Watcher's.  I don't expect good results since I had a couple of days of "emotional" eating.  It doesn't matter, I always feel so much better when I attend the meeting.  I have met some great people there and always leave with a smile on my face.

I am planning my birthday lunch.  I am turning 65 which is so hard to believe.  I can't possibly be this old!  My birthday falls on a Tuesday so I am having my retired friends over.  It will be a smaller group than I normally have which is good since my nerves are kind of frazzled right now.

Thanks for asking about me.  Just knowing you are all here when I need you makes all the difference.
