Metastasis - Oligodendroglioma Cancer spread to Spine

I am very sorry to hear about your brother in law. It's hearbreaking and life altering to hear no matter the stage or location.

My fiance has grade II Oligodendroglioma. We were told in a follow up that this could spread to his spine, but that was a very rare case.

Has he had previous surgery? was it diagnosed at grade III?

I beleive your best option is to speak with his team of doctors? Does he have any upcoming appointments? They should be letting him know what the next steps are, what the best plan is for him, should he disagree with this plan, there are so many other options out there! Second, Third and Fourth opinions, until he feels it's right!

Hi Ashley he was diagnosed as

Hi Ashley he was diagnosed as a Grade 2 Oligodendroglioma 5 years back..he has had 3 recurrences so far...the last time he was operated was his 3 operation and he was a grade 3 which happened in 2010 April

 

November 20th of 2012 he was admitted to the hospital with severe cough..his MRI's were clean so the doctors kept treating him for TB....3 weeks ago they did an MRI on the spine and they saw liason...they performed a biopsy 10 days back and found a elongated tumor...

 

Today the report said its a highly malignant metsastasis tumor..the cancer is still Grade 3 but now in the spine

He is not conscious and he has not been talking for the past 3 weeks....

He is drowsy most of the time may be because of the medication..but he hardly recognizes people

the doctor said there is very little option..is there any doctor here who is an expert...they are thinking of a shunt but they think its too risky as this can cause the cancer to spread to the stomach....the report says its a highly cellular glial tumor...

Is there anything that can be done at this stage...i dont want to give up hope...
