Intentions For 2011

After a very inspiring yoga class this afternoon, I began to think about my intentions for 2011... in some ways a little more strict than resolutions, but in some ways a little more relaxed! Instead of vowing to do something all year, and then giving up when you break a rule, I think of intentions more as something you can reflect on every day, and even make strides to improve upon them. If you don't quite realize one of your intentions on any given day, just think about how to make it true the next!

So, I wanted to share mine... open for comment or suggestions of course... maybe by throwing these out there I will do a better job of holding myself accountable to them :)

1. I intend not to be discouraged. Undoubtedly this year will bring many challenges, but I am a tough girl..... I will overcome them! I cannot let myself be discouraged, but rather take everything that comes at me and use it as a catalyst for improvement. Improvement of my health, my medical team, my daily diet and activities, my holistic healing team, and my strength.

2. I intend to show those whom I love how much they mean to me every chance I get. This experience has brought into light those of my family and friends who can be counted on, and who cannot. It is very strange blessing in disguise! I need to show those who I care about, and who care about me, how much I love them. Being there for them through these difficult times is just as important as them being there for me.

3. I intend to share my blessings with others. It may be small on some days, and large on others, but I want to do a better job of taking the blessings I have been given, and using them to help others. What does this mean? I don't know exactly, but I do know where to start. Continuing to be a positive face every time I visit the hospital, trying to put smiles on the faces of others who are going through difficult times, and finding a way to help others who are not as fortunate are a start. Hopefully this intention will blossom into something amazing over the course of 2011.

4. I intend to have increasing faith. I do have faith, but as many of you know, it is hard not to question what is happening. I intend to start each day off with a conversation with God. Hopefully this conversation brings me a better understanding of not only what is happening, but of what I need to do to realize all of my other intentions! I will keep praying that the right path comes to me :)

I have a feeling that these will evolve as the year goes on, but I will do my best to reflect upon them every day and make them come true!

I wish all of you the very best 2011... feel free to share your intentions too!!!

Lots of hugs,
Nicole

I like your idea of intentions instead of resolutions. You have inspired me to make a list for myself and try to keep my good intentions one day at a time.

Your wisdom and strength are an inspiration for us all.

Thank you for sharing this and I wish you the very best in 2011. You will do well!!

    Big hugs to you,

    Novel Idea
What a wonderful idea - making intentions instead of resolutions. I will have to write down my intentions somewhere. Since some of them are a bit depressing, I won't put them here. But one thing that 2010 has taught me is to be compassionate to those who show me compassion.

    Thanks for the idea

    Intentions.
Nicole, thank you so much for your inspiring post. I've never been one to make New Years Resolutions. I like the idea of setting my intention and meditating on a daily basis. Not just at yoga class.

Wishing you health and happiness in 2011 and always.

I like the word intention's much better than resoloution's. I am going to try to be more patient with everyone. Also not to judge anyone quickly & to reason thing's out. Learning
to let go of matter's which are unimportant is on my list of intention's also.

Thank you for sharing your intentions with all of us on here. If we could all mirror your intentions we would all be better people. It is difficult to have faith and continue to grow your faith when faced with what many or most of us have faced. Mine main intention is for me to continue to follow God and his will during 2011. I now by God's grace have been spared four more years of life since being diagnosed. Before cancer I guess I really did not look at every day as a gift from God, at least in literal terms. I realize now how precious life is and the blessings we have. No matter how bad I think things are for me, I can always look around and see someone much worse than I. God Bless all my friends on this site.

    powerful
Very powerful Nicole. I especially like #2. I have realized as I travel through this adventure that being the person in need of care presents a unique opportunity to give more love to those giving the care. Sometimes, the worse I feel, the more my heart opens and allows me to express my love in ways not accessible before. Strange but true.
I also like the gentleness of intentions. No shame or punishment for not doing it perfectly. Just a re-intention. Thank you for sharing this.

    Hi Nicole
    Great post very inspirational

Who knows the heart better then God,

For me I just want to let God lead me in the path he has provided. And as I walk down the valley of the shadow of death I ask him to just hold my hand until I can see His light. I might not understand everything that he is doing but I know he does nothing without a plan.

Hope 2011 will be a great year for you.

    Thank you!!!
Thank you all for all of your comments... and for those of you who shared your intentions, they are all so very inspirational as well! I know you all will do an amazing job each and every day of living up to your intentions... Even on day #2 of this new year, I can say it is not easy to hold true to them each and every day, but thinking about them constantly and coming back to them each time I "slip" is so very helpful. I hope it will be for all of you as well.

You are all in my thoughts and prayers.

    2013 like 2011

    H&N Forum,

While reading through past threads I came across this one by Nicole Kimber, a H&N member who has since past away from complications brought on by her fight with Mucoepidermoid Carcinoma (of the minor salivary glands in her throat).

I can’t help it but I feel her New Years Intensions for 2011 deserves a reprint.  Her post speaks for itself.

    Intentions 2013,

    RIGHT ON !!

Nichole was one whom I traded excersise and nutrition tips with. I must say in all of my 48 1/2 yrs on this earth, Nichole was one of the most upbeat and positive people I ever had the pleasure of getting to know. I miss her.

Reading that hurts knowing that someone so young is not here. Heartwrenching. I didn't know her online but what a loss.

    You Know It..

    We are family....

Though at times we might irritate each other a little, we are bound regardless... We work through it, we laugh, we cry, we bit.ch, we moan, we sing, we rejoice, we support, we lift when needed, we show tough love at times, we get through it...

We are family, that's what we do...
