Another Milestone

edited December 2012 in Head and Neck Cancer #1

Happy New Years Eve everyone. Today I reached another milestone in my journey ; 1 year ago today I finished my treatments and continue to be cancer free. While my journey isn't over , I will continue to see my onco and rad docs every 6 months, my ENT every three, with port flushes, CAT scans and throat scopes thrown in for good measure. Work and getting back to my life has kept me busy, taste has returned to about 95 % , saliva good  most if not all days, still drink a lot of water. The biggest lessons I learned over this past year was how blessed I truly am and to never take  things for granted; the day I heard those 3 words , " you have cancer" has forever changed my life. For those of you who have walked or are still walking this path , whether it's been years, months , weeks or days since you heard those same words , we are an eclectic band of warriors who have been brought together to support and encourage each other , to celebrate our  victories, to cry when one of our H&N friends has met the beast again or lost their battle.  While I don't post as often as I used to, I do check in to read your post, what a godsend for me to have found this site and  the friends I've made here , the encouragement received, you are never ever just words on a screen, blessings come in all forms.  Thank you all from the bottom of my heart.

Linda

I'm sitting here are work...and all is quiet...

Read your post, and thought....your words are truly uplifting!!  A year ago, I knew something was wrong with me, but didn't have a clue what I was in for....Now that treatment is over, I too feel blessed in so many ways....ah, the things I've learned since last March!  All good things, no less Smile  The people I've met here are at the top of my list of blessings.

    Thank you for posting

You'll never know how much these words are needed for me and my dad right now.  He is a newbie (at 94) and it is getting a bit hard eating, tasting, mucous control (if that is even possible) and pain.

I just thank you for your encouraging words.  I'll certainly pass them along to Dad...

    Happy, happy New Year!

    DePorted..

Linda, hopefully you'll get to be "DePorted" much sooner than I was.

If you remember, my onco likes to leave the port in for two years..., It was actually nearly two and a half before I finally got DePorted.

    Best ~ John

    Happy New (and better) Year

    Linda,

You are so right, 1 year  ago (Dec 23rd) I heard those 3 words and like you my cards were reshuffled.

I am glad to hear you are doing well and it appears you’ve gained some positive perspective from all this chaos.

    Keep healing and feeling good.

    Da port

My onco said when I see her in June we can pick a date to de-port,  she originally said 2 years also.  All 3 of my docs are interested in the potential effects the gardasil injections I'm getting will have ,my 3rd and last injection is in  April , so the first 6 months of this year are  already scheduled out for me. 2013 here I come!!!
