This is my update on my (http://csn.cancer.org/node/251526). Ok, I made it home yesterday (Thursday) afternoon (driving alone). Had my surgery endoscopically on Sunday noon; woke up to find myself in my bed. Things felt great. I was connected right away, walking around at the doc’s instructions. Many internal movement of gases, and doctor said nothing will be said until I pass gases and stool. The movement of gases up and down felt so miserable for a long while till I was able to meet the requirements late Monday and early Tuesday. Once those gases found their way out, it was a wonderful relief. Pain was tolerable and subsided with time and walking exercises (spent most of the time moving while there, nothing else to do: no computer connection). On Tuesday they told me I will be discharged late Wednesday or early Thursday, meanwhile I should be up and moving. They scheduled my clinic visit to see the results of the histology and discuss treatment in 10 days (on Saturday).

Today I enjoyed going to the bathroom.

Now I am reviewing all the great responses you’ve accorded my questions; I surely appreciate any thing you may think of in terms of treatment or possible areas I should discuss in my visit. You’ve all been a great help. Thank you and Happy Holidays.

    Dear Sander

So very glad to hear your news.  It sounds as if you have a very good surgeon.

Be sure to keep up the walking, as it keeps things going in the right direction.  Hopefully your doctor gave you foods to avoid while you are healing.

Until you know the histology, it is difficult to offer suggestions of any detail.  Just make sure that whatever plans your doctor recommends, you ask about potential short term and long term side effects.

    Wishing you best news.

    my surgeon was

    Thanks Marie

my surgeon was really good. No he did not suggest food to avoid while healing. In fact, his assistant who signed my discharge said "no food limitation" provided it be a bit soft for a while. And told me what to watch for (blood, nausea, and fever).

Your suggestion to ask about short and long side effects is one a put down on my notes that I will take with me. thank you for your concern and help
