This shooting at the school in Connecticut is so sad, so horrible. 26 confirmed dead now and 18 of those are children. This is just what they are saying right now.

Such a senseless act, I just don't get it.

They are saying that 1 of
They are saying that 1 of the gun men are dead and the other is in custody. There is suppose to be a conference soon on tv to explain more to us. I am crying at the loss of these innocent children and adults. Praying for their families.

They just said that it was because of a domestic dispute?

The latest I just heard is
The latest I just heard is that they have no clue as to rather it was domestic dispute or not. They said that the shooter (or t least the dead shooter) is a 20 y/o NJ guy. They did say that someone else is being held for questions but not sayiing he is also a shooter or just an accomplice.

This may sound bad to some but what needs to be done now is to rally round those who are still here and will have to deal with this horrendous happening forever. Those who were taken are beyond further human help BUT there are thousands upon thousands who are were afffected by this who need the support. I hope that they get professionals who are trained/educated in PTSD there quickly for the survivors. I would also suggest that even those who are viewing the incomprehensiable happenings there that they educated themselves to the potential for PTSD and seek help if needed.

Thank God for the teachers who realized that something horrendous was happening and got their sutudents into the best lock down positions they could.

Just heard some more really sad stuff - the house they were checking out near the school had a body in it and that it may be the shooters Mom.

It is so sad how so many with mental problems fall through the cracks.

My heart is just breaking at the loss of so many. What a tragedy!

I have to echo what you say Diane, what the f*** is wrong with people anymore? Forgive my cursing, but, when something like this happens, it just makes you wonder how this world has come to this.

    To take innocent lives....

A big thanks to the police, SWAT team, state troopers, teachers and the first responders.

I will be saying prayers for all of those affected by this tragedy and will light a candle right now for the innocent victims and their families.

    It is sad
After raising a very angry teen who truly saw little hope especially after my diagnosis and treatments for breast cancer. My son had seen how hard I worked to try and do better for us yet I was the one who got cancer and close to death. His father on the other hand always MIA and cared little about his responsibilities as a father. I father and mother and lucky enough to have some very good family and friends or I am not sure I would have made it through him let alone the BC.
After loosing many friends to suicide back in the 90's I just think more people inclined to do something terrible to others so they know their pain. I was fortunate enough to meet a religous nurse at my cancer facility here in Vancouver BC who made me realize bad things happen even in the best of environments talking about her own family and one of her children. I hate thinking that between gangland shooting and the levels of violence in the world let alone our own backyards, is becoming the norm. I too struggle trying to understand where our children began to care so little about themselves and their loyalties always lie else where instead of with the family that most of the time is there for them though they cannot see or feel them.
It is sad to see what shooting incidents do to families my son living through his own at 15 though his new best friend died due to bullet piercing both lungs and he was 14 while another remained paralysed. Children actually hunted our children down in farmer fields as they tried to get out of the area with little public transpertation available. A few short years later my son is out in public bumping into the killers set free. The brother would go insane and litterally fight his way to some justice for his dead little brother. He died 10 years to the day almost in a terrible car crash though he had cheated death himself many times. I cannot imagine how it is possible for children and people in general to treat humans so badly and now poverty seems to be the norm and that is suppose to give us hope in North America.

    The teachers were real heros
The teachers were real heros in protecting the children. I hope every school, especially in

this day and age, has a plan if this should occur in their school.

Just heard that the shooter did shoot his Mom, a kindergarten teacher and her students. They

also found a man that is related to the shooter dead in his home.

    For Diane
I believe any sensible school has a plan for such a situation. Your job is to protect the students. We have had a plan for years. Our doors are locked after everyone is in, those who are late have to ring to be allowed in. The staff has a special card, we wave and the door opens.

This is so tragic, to horrible for words.

The school doors here are open
I believe that every school has some plan too for a tragedy, but, we live in a very small rural community and the doors to the school are unlocked and basically, anyone can walk in. There has never been a problem and I pray there never is here.

I so agree that this is too horrible for any words. Praying for everyone

    It just seems impossible
It just seems impossible that anyone could do this, kill those precious young children. Those poor families that lost their babies, my heart goes out to them. When things like this happen, it is just so difficult to even think of any reason that someone would do this.

Praying for all who are involved in this tragedy,

I thought it was really bad
I thought it was really bad and in poor taste for the news reporters to interview those poor kids. Leave them alone and let them be with their parents and try to find some comfort. Today was a very sad day in the world.

    Parents were wrong!
It was the parents who allowed/encouraged them to be 'interviewed' that were wrong.

    My Personal Opinion
First of all, I am glad that no one here lost a child on this tragedy. My heart breaks for these parents who now will spend Christmas without their child. I can't imagine. I pray they, somehow, find comfort and peace.

    Here's what I think.

Everyone is blaming guns and the killer. Many people I have spoken to say the same thing: we should change the laws for guns. That kid should burn in hell. Now, I am NOT defending what he did. But I want to say that ANGER, HATE and DEPRESSION are real problems. I strongly feel there are little mental health services for our society. And people often ignore the signs for help. I don't know the story behind this killer but I wonder how much help he received. How much his family did to protect, not only his life, but all the lives lost today. Guns don't kill people, people kill people. I personally hate guns, but if the law changes, I don't believe the real issue will be removed from the society, which is the lack of mental health services. I can also say that families, friends, coworkers, should pay more attention to the people they care about (or even the people around them). To give you an example, in my native country, culturally, people do not believe in depression. They think its an excuse invented by medical teams to make more money. I personally knew of a guy who was depressed and he told his family many times. They thought he was just looking for attention. Well. The guy hung himself in his closet (in his 20's). He could have used a gun, but I guess the closet was more appropriate for him at that time. Truth is, people who are emotionally and mentally ill or have a level of certain conditions, should get help. If you see someone you care about acting strange or saying weird things, perhaps its a sign that he/she needs a hand.

And yes, you go home to hug your kids because of what happened. But if you are a parent who has a troubled child, you should also go home to hug that child, tell him you love him, and help him get better. A lot of times we don't even realize how many sick people are walking around us. They don't teach about God in schools (and for those who don't believe in God, I respect that), people don't even believe in Christmas (the meaning of), they don't care about one another. There is more selfishness in the world which is why certain behaviors and signs go unnoticed. The real problem is that our world/planet is changing for the worse, thanks to people.

Prayers go out to all these families. It's truly sad what has happened.

    Love you all.

    Large, important area to
Large, important area to tackle. Have to say I know first hand about mental health problems. This is a disease and many doctors just don't understand it and are indeed very dismissive and down right off hand on this subject. Get the impression they are not trained deeply about this and dont understand something they cant see as in a broken bone etc. Any one with these health type problems must not have guns neither should
teens whose hormones are raging. Nor gangs and the lawless. Automatic guns should only be for the military. I have great respect for all religions as long as people are not fanatical, sadly in this country we have our gun fanatics and religious fanatics too and it is getting worse. Even this horrible crime will not budge people's feelings of gun control. I understand the history but two hundred years have passed since firearms were needed to make the country free and safer. My thoughts go out to all the families and friends of these little ones and the brave school employees. No words can make things easier, may be later after the shock has passed a little. Bless their hearts.
