Severe dehydration on folfox

Has any body has severe dehydration whilst on folfox. My husband has just been hospitalized as he is not recovering from his last treatment. He has his next one(no.5) in three days. They have put a saline iv up and he is being rehydrated. His blood glucose is all over the place. From talking with colleagues this can be triggered by steroids and oxaliplatin. Has any one on the board suffered from these complications. dinkydi8

this is not that uncommon, a really good naturopath helped me alot.
its that success that strted me doing conventional and alternative at the same time.

therapy success speaks for it self. search our archives for dehydration, its almost 2 years since i was hospitalised twice, its serious and can kill. make sure you demand the best care, you cannot take chances with diarrhea, i presume your hubby has a ileostomy.

i used slippery elm, codienne only and immodium. sipping good electrolytes also helps. now i know how good coconut water is i would sip that with a diluted carrot juice.

good luck and I hope your husband gets well.

    hugs,
    Pete

    Dehydration
I had one incident where my doctor's office rehydrated me through saline iv at the time of my treatment. I didn't have to go to the hospital. I felt much better after that. I hope your husband recovers soon.

    Dehydration
I had a terrible time with dehydration. Had to go to the ER once and the cancer treatment center had to rehydrate me 4 different times. I just wasn't drinking enough liquids and the diarrhea didn't help. I'm not sure why but I just had the hardest time drinking enough liquids. Water tasted awful and anything with a flavor tasted too strong. I ended up only being able to drink Ice Mountain water (all the generic water had a strong chemical flavors) and Ensure. I know I needed to drink more but for some reason, I had developed an aversion to most drinks. I also didn't eat solids for over 5 months (again...food aversion) but lived on Ensure Plus. I lost 50 pounds, I'd like to think I would try harder next time if it ever happens again. I've been off of chemo for about four months now and I'm back on solid foods and I drink lots of water (still like Ice Mountain the best). I've gained some of the weight back.

    Sorry to hear, unfortunately
Sorry to hear, unfortunately this is not uncommon on FOLFOX. I drank a lot of fluids and still ended up in the hospital for dehydration. I was running to the bathroom 20 times a day and could not consume enough liquids or food.

It does get better! Lomotil or Immodium help, gatoraid and bananas helped me keep something in me.

Sending our good thoughts and prayers!
    Best Always, mike

    Dehydration
I had a horrible time with dehydration. I just could never drink enough. I drank water and craved grape Gatorade. Never liked the Gatorade before treatment and I don't like it nor will drink it after treatment. Towards the middle I really struggled with hydration so they gave me extra IV liquids with my treatment and I got some more IV liquids when I went back to have my pump disconnected. For a few times I took IV liquids home between treatments and would hook myself to a pump every day at home. The pump came with a bag so I could hang it over my back and continue on with my normal nightly routine. They would leave the needle and connector in my port and I would attach the connectors turn on the pump and get my liquids at night as soon as I got home from work. . It was provided by the same group that provided me with my 5FU pump. This was the only way I could get through treatment. Dehydration always made me tired. Dehydration is very dangerous you have to keep on top of it.
