The Things We Do For Our Caregivers

When we rang in 2012 at our annual New Years Eve Party we never thought for a minute we would have the year we did. A cancer diagnosis, hysterectomy surgery, IP port surgery when it came back cance r, power port installation, 6 rounds of chemo, power port removal and NED status.. Wow...

Through it all my husband was my rock. He was at every treatment holding my hand when I needed it, helping me to bed when I was dizzy and my blood pressure was tanking, constantly making sure I had what I needed before I even knew I needed it.

Since things got back to normal I have been trying to think of something nice to do for him. I tried hard to get tickets to Bruce Springsteen when he came to town not long ago to surprise him but that didn't happen.

Well this year he asked if we could decorate the tree with the old style c5 lights this year. I said suuuuure. Then the question of tinsel came up... I can't tell you how much I HATE tinsel. He wanted to put tinsle on the tree. So.... our tree has tinsel. I never imagined how happy this would make him.

He has been talking for years about wanting one of those ceramic christmas trees with the lights stuck through the holes. They were huge in the early 80's. I have looked everywhere and when I find one it is cheesy.

Well... I have decided to make one for him. I go to the cermaic place in town today to make his tree. I am NOT a crafty person so this is taking me way out of my comfort zone but this is my say of saying thank you..Thank you for taking care of me, thank you for loving me through it and thank you for being the man he is.... I sure hope this turns out good...

This is a secret and I had to tell someone before I burst. Thanks for reading. Have a great day today

    HOW WONDERFUL!
Your secret is safe with us! And your thoughtfulness is overwhelming. I wish I could be there when your husband sees the tree. He surely is well-deserving of these special surprises. I am also blessed with an extraordinary husband. And each holiday/occasion I try to think of those things that he treasures and 'wishes' he still had from his childhood days, or gifts along that line. Those presents are so meaningful, well-thought-out, and deeply from the heart.

To you and yours, a Very Blessed Christmas! Enjoy the Joy!

Thanks Monika and a very blessed Christmas to your family as well... Things were very different last night for our tree party. Our family tradition is to go get the tree and decorate while we have tons of snacks and egg nog (not me) and wine. Last night had a whole new vibe and it was really nice. I think this past year has brought our family even closer. Heck my 14 year old got a text from a friend wanting him to do something and he said "Cant do it- it is tree day at our house". I thought that was so sweet because he never gave it a second thought. He just answered right away...

I am very excited to get started on this project and can not wait to see it complete. I will have to post a picture for sure

    Hi Glad
What a wonderful surprise for your caregiving hubby! Please be sure to report back to us his reaction (which I'm sure will be surprise and happiness!).

By the way, I think I know those ceramic Christmas trees with the lights sticking out of them. My mom has one, or at least she had one.

    I actually
have one of those little trees which a dear neighbor gave me in the early seventies. I love it so much but my problem is that a lot of the lights have come off and are missing. I have bought others but they haven't been the right size. I should look on the internet. Good luck in finding the perfect one for your husband.

Awe... How thoughtful you are!! Thinking I should do something extra for my husband now.
I have one of those trees. Mine is white with red birds sticking out. Found it at a yard sale couple years ago. It may be retro but I love it.
I'm sure your husband will be thrilled.

    Very nice
But you know I have been looking at something for so long (years and years)and one day out of the blue Tina said look just get it for yourself. (<<<< That word says it all). She very very rarely ever wanted to spend on non essential things. I did end up getting it but you know what I learned very quickly... It didn't make me feel any better and taught me just how stupid material things really are in life. A simple I love you a hug or a kind word from Tina means more to me than a 1 million bucks at this point in our lives. Just a little perspective from a caregivers side.

    Bless you all

Sorry if what I wrote offended you
I was just sharing MY STORY as caregiver. You know the other side of the coin. What my story was eluding to was what you did was a very loving and selfless thing and most likely was priceless to your husband. Again sorry if it come out with the wrong message I was trying to get across.
