Metastasis To Lung

Repeat CT: Stuff in lungs grew.
Oncologist suggests a biopsy. I'll go along with that suggestion (with much "normal" trepidation.)

Lung metastasis has such a poor prognosis. I have so much to do and so little time to do it. I'll fill you in as time goes by.

The only thing remaining is to leave my caregiver (wife) in the best possible (emotional) condition. I plan to fight the C Beast for some time. I plan both conventional and alternative treatments. And of course prayer.

The one good thing about having a p*ss poor prognosis, it doesn't take much to beat it.
Rick.

I need every bit of encouragement. I think it speaks highly of you that you can find the strength to offer (me) help and encouragement after your loss. However, I believer your mother (I do hope I remember that right) is still with you. I do believe in an afterlife, but not anxious to move on. When it is my time, I wouldn't mind both your and my mother meet me to guide me to the light.

I really hope I'm not insulting, or speaking out of turn. Rick.

Rick I am so sorry to hear your news. I know what it is like to hear it. I pray for your wife as well. It is so hard to watch the one you love struggle to survive. As much as I want David to live I know the chances are very small and he will be in significant pain if he survives the treatment. I hate cancer and how it has impacted lives. I have been up since 3 since David is running 102.4 fever. They are trying to get it down so the can give him platelets since they are at 10. The have to do a new PICC line because he needs a two line one for the chemo they want to give. Sorry for hijacking your thread I am sleep deprived. I am so mad for all the cancer patients who work so hard to slay the beast only to have it rear its ugly head. Keep fighting Rick. Someone has to be the small percent that survive. Fight as long as you can. No matter what I will be in your corner. Take care and may God bless you and your wife and allow you some peace and comfort with each other.

Rick, I am so sorry to hear
Rick, I am so sorry to hear about the lung metastasis, especially after all you have been through. I don't mean to be negative but wonder sometimes how much of a handle Drs have on this cancer. But, keep fighting. Tomorrow there could be a new trial. By the way, did you ask if there are any trials going on? I know you can research trials on American Cancer Network.

I am praying for you and your wife also. Gather all your strength and fight.

    Damn cancer....
I'm so sorry to hear about this Rick...I didn't realize you were going in for another CT for the possibility that it had gone to your lungs.

It's heartening to know that you're going to fight this beastie no matter what. Putting you into my pocket, too. Prayers and positive thoughts going your way.

I'M IN THE SAME BOAT AS YOU
... as I am battling a mestastasis to my lung and nodes in my Mediastynum. I am in a clinical trial using 3 drugs. Carboplatin and a 96 hour infusion of 5FU every 3 weeks, along with Erbitux every week. My baseline CT Scan was 3 small tumors in my right lower lobe and several very small tumors in the nodes in my Mediastynum. The nodes are still too small to show up on a CT, but did light up on a PET and were positive on a biopsy. The trial gives me a CT every 6 weeks and my first scan showed that the tumors in my lung did not shrink, but did change significantly in appearance indicating the drugs are working. I have my second 6 week Ct on 12-11 and am hoping for an improvement. They also tell me that the worse the side effects are, and let me tell you, I am pimpled out from head to toe, and the 5FU gives me the worst mouth sores known to mankind, so as I get uglier, I hope I am beating the C.

My diagnosis is NOT good, but I hope to keep this at bay or even in remission for a long time to come.

Keep the faith, there are a lot of people here who we thought to be "goners" and are still here alive and well.

We are all induviduals, not a statistic.

    Best!!

There is always hope, and you know you have prayers coming your way...

Keep the humor, and positive attitude, hopefully the Good Lord will take care of the rest between meds, MD's, and alternatives if it comes to that.

That goes for you also Mike.

I really don't know how I found your story or battle, but you remind me so much of the battle that my fiance and I are fighting. He is not winning at this point, and it is breaking my heart. I was married to " a not very good person". And I found Chuck, who is the most kind, caring , loving person, and for some reason is dealing with this. I just don't know how to deal with this.

    Thank You
I want to thank everyone for their kind words of encouragement. My plan is to eat an ultra-healthy diet. At least 5 servings of fruit and veggies a day. I juice, and I will start putting raw veggies thru the blender (to whack open their cell walls). I don't plan anything too drastic. I will cut back on sugars (but I'm probably too weak of character to completely eliminate them). Even if I go thru chemo again, I will try to keep up the nutrition. When I had neck radiation, I ate a small amount every four hours around the clock.

Blender Explanation: I have a very restricted esophagus. If I don't chew everything to a fine mash, it will get stuck. Fortunately, I have no trouble coughing it back up. (So there has been no runs to the ER.) And stuck food cannot obstruct my airway. (The airway is not connected to the mouth, it exits in a hole in my neck, stoma.) But I don't want to risk getting solid chunks lodged in the food pipe. Rick.

    Rick,

If you have another story about Peanut, I could use one about now. I am so sorry to read your news, but happy you are still in the fight. One time a Peanut came into your life maybe it is time for some positive results to do the same.

    Praying for you,

    Matt

    So Sorry
    Rick:

So sorry to hear this news. And it is so admirable of you to be focused on your wife and her emotional state. I know now that is what Charlie for me. Of course I was such a basketcase, he was the real trooper! Y'all are in my prayers. And remember this being Jimmy V week on ESPN. "Never give up!" God Bless!

    NUTRITION
I am a big believer in good nutrition, I do not juice or go to the extreme, but the best thing that has worked to keep me from losing any weight is Whey Protien. I mix 90 grams in 1% milk in a blender each morning. I also supplement throughout the day with an over the counter nutritional shake mostly for the calories. I eat a light lunch usually leftover dinner from the night before or a thick hearty healthy soup. I no longer go to the gym as I am really fatigued and my wife (nurse) and doc's do not want me to risk picking up something in that environment. I have a bowflex and some small weights at home and try to get 8-10 sets of a body part in every other day. I would focus on first trying to keep your weight at a healthy level, as allot of other things will fall into place, and focus on "over hydrating" your body as I found out the hard way 2 weeks ago that I dried out before I realized it was too late and my body just shut down for a day 1/2 until I slept and caught up on fluids with electrolytes.

    Hope this helps.

    Best!!

    Mike
