Mesh as hinderance to removal of lymph nodes

My urolgist is recommending removal of prostate but warned me that he might not be able to remove lymph nodes because I had a double hernia repair that included insertion of mesh. I obtained a second opinion where the urologist said the mesh would present no problem. Both urologists use the robot DaVinci procedure (both agreed my nerves may be severed if stuck to the prostate. I am also considering radiation with the seeds. I have 3 Gleason scores of 3 +4 and 5 cells that are 3 + 3. The malignant cells include several that are very near the lining on the bottom part of the prostate. The radiologist warned me that because of the location of those cells, it is possible that I could need radiation after surgery, perhaps as early as one year later. Any thoughts regarding the conflicting opinions on the mesh as an obstacle to removal of the lymph nodes? Has anyone experienced this issue? Thank you.

It seen that these Doctor's are needing a new car or house! I think there is other treatment that you could option's for than removing your prostate. Even with 3 gleason scores 3+4 and 5 being 3+3. What is your age and PSA??? If I'm right your about to change your life, if the cancer is in your lymph nodes removing them is a big discomfort and does not solve your problem's with lymph nodes. If it is a blood born prostate cancer it is in all lymph nodes. I think you should look into option to control the cancer in the lymph node. All I know is for 4 years the doctor's have control my lymph node tumor's and control my prostate cancer from growing. My gleason scores were 4+5 in 7 and 3+4 in 5 and psa 6.8. The prostate is remove 4 years ago.

AS far as radiation, it is a process that they put us through and was waste of my time. The damage to my nerve's in the my pelvis area.Which will never be the same and it did not get the cancer. I used proton radiation for treatment.

I'm sorry for your condition and hope for the best for you!!

    God bless

    Why Bother With Surgery?
If your radiologist warns that you may need radiation anyway, why bother w/surgery especially with the conflicting opinions about the problem the hernia mesh may present to doing surgery AND the substantial risks of negative side effects -- mainly ED and incontinence - which almost always accompany surgery?

I suggest you investigate, CyberKnife (a form of SBRT -- stereotactic beam radiation therapy) which I consider the best available form of radiation treatment currently available), HDR BT (high dose rate brachytherapy) which unlike LDR BT (lose does rate brachytherapy) only places radioactive seeds temporarily in your prostate and IMRT (intensity modulated radation treatment)which is probably (with the exception of LDR BT)the most common method of radiation delivery currently used to treat prostate cancer.

    Good luck!

Thank you. I'm 70 years old and have a 5.60 PSA. I don't have any idea whether the cancer is in my lymph nodes, but the doctor said he would remove them if he can reach them. Every doctor I have seen has advised that I either have the surgery or radiation.
