Update from KTeacher's sister...

I saw it on Facebook....sounds like she did well:

Hi all. Shirley here, Bev's sister. Bev and Don asked that I post an update on her surgery surgery:

Reconstruction surgery went great. Stuffed a bunch of fat from her arm into the void made from the removal of the eye. Took a piece of skin from her arm and made a "flap graft", almond-shaped, to cover where her eye was. Took a piece of skin from her thigh to cover the spot on her arm. At the point on the thigh they were able to just pull it together. They said she withstood all well.

Update on Bev's progress Friday, November 9:
Beverly had a comfortable night, short of the hourly testing to be sure the blood was flowing through the reattached blood vessels in the graft. Her pain was only about a one, thanks to wonderful drugs.

Today the graft started swelling more than what it is expected to. The microvascular plastic surgeon came into her room and along with another doctor and a nurse, removed the sutures that were holding the graft on the bottom of the eye area and inserted a plastic tubing to drain the fluids that were accumulating. Don was there while they performed this procedure and he said they removed a blood clot (that is what they have to watch for). By the time he left several hours later, he said she was doing well. Now, in addition to hourly checks on her, a doctor will check on her every four hours, around the clock, supposedly for at least 72 hours. She is in good hands.
