Are the steroids agreeing with you? I am taking Dexamethason and I just was curious if anyone has been useing it, and how they react to it>

Ah yes, this steriod is also known as decadron. I've had an on again off again relationship with decadron for a couple of years now. I didn't notice it so much when I did the TAC chemo...just too many drugs in my system then to pinpoint what caused what reaction.

I did whole brain rads recently and decadron was prescribed for the swelling...it made me very antsy, couldn't sleep, wanted to eat all the time, it'll make your face round, many gain weight on decadron. It took me about two, maybe three weeks to taper off.

I'm on it again to help deal with shingles, 4mg 3x a day. I don't know how long I'll be on them this time...but each time, the SE's have been worth it because the benefits outweigh the problems.

I hope your experience with decadron is an easy one.

    Hugs,

    Linda

    Steroids
I had steroids in conjunction with my chemo. I received the drug via IV on chemo day and then for three days after, I took a pill twice a day. The nurses at my infusion locale told me that it would be smart to take the second pill mid-afternoon rather than twelve hours after taking the first. I was told I would sleep better if I did that.

It worked. I don't recall problems with the steroids. (I was doing chemo every other week from April 9 to July 16 this year.)

    Decadron kept me up and
Decadron kept me up and zippy the first couple of nights after chemo. Then I was Ok. I countered it with Ativan at night so I could sleep.

    Steroids did to me...
I had HORRIFIC dreams while I was on the steroids. I dreaded going to bed at night. They weren't nightmares per se, just dark greasy black machine-like filthy uncomfortable dreams with bad smells and bad sounds. Don't know how else to express them. The dreams stopped several days after the steroids were done, but I'd knew they'd be back with the next round of steroiods during my next chemo session. Brrrrrrrrrrr.
