Sister diagnosed yesterday stage 3C - should she join this site yet?

Hi everyone - I stumbled across this board while searching online for any kind of information for my 56 year old sister who was recently diagnosed with OC. I would like to refer her here because I think she could use the information and support but I'm afraid it might terrify her more than she already is because we just found out yesterday of her diagnosis. But I have also seen posts where people wished they found it sooner in their treatment. Should I wait until after her surgery which isn't even scheduled yet? I would appreciate any advice because I'm not sure what the right answer is.

Me, myself I did not find
Me, myself I did not find this site until after I was done with treatment and NED (no evidnce detected). There are alot of warriors here and at least one person if not more has been through the chemo she will have. It is a great place for advice. I sure wish I would have found this place during treatment. They cheer with you and cry with you but most importantly we have all been in the same exact spot she is right now and we know exactly how she feels. That is important when you get to the point (and she will) where you feel like nobody knows how you feel...

What I would do if it was my sister is tell her about the group and tell her when she wants to join you have the web address...

In the meantime, please come back. We have alot of sisters and daughters here.

    Hi Faye
I'm so sorry about your sister's diagnosis. I would let her know now that this site exists and explain to her that this is a very good place for getting information and unconditional support from women who know exactly what she is going through. She can decide what she wants to do. In the meantime, we welcome you anytime, since this must be very scary for you too. I just want to add one more thing: your sister has every reason to be hopeful about her future. Many women, staged at 3C and 4 have lived long and productive lives. My friend is a nine-year-and-counting stage 3C survivor. While she has had her share of chemo over the years, it has not stopped her from enjoying life with her family and friends. As a matter of fact, she went on a cruise to Alaska earlier this summer, one of many, many trips she has taken over the years.

    Take care,

    Kelly

    When I found this site
I had finished my initial rounds of chemo and was a couple of weeks from debulking surgery. I was feeling down and alone. Even though I had people around me I felt they didn't really understand and was surprised that others in my life didn't come around at all.

I sobbed as I posted but the quick and kind responses from the ladies on this board helped so much and let me know there were people who would always be here for me.

I would definately tell your sister about the board. She can decide if and when she wants to participate. For me, I can't imagine not having this resource.

I knew I found the right place
Thank you all so much for your responses. I will give my sister this site and when she is ready, she can post. Until she is ready, I hope she reads all the other posts and finds the overwhelming support that I felt as soon as I read all of your thoughtful replies to me. It is scary and as I am sure many of your friends and family felt, the frustration of not being able to change her situation is so very upsetting. Thank you all again!
