    Genetic Counseling
Make sure they offer you genetic counseling with your results. It is supposed to be mandatory, but it was not offered to me. The information flyer included in the test results I received contained information that was devastating to me. I found out later the information was false. Don't believe the general information contained in the packet.

We were also relieved to find out she was negative for BRCA 1&2. Took 2 weeks for us to get the results. She was offered genetic counseling by the way

    BRCA1 Positive - any recommendations?
I too have the BRCA! and 4 daughters, so sad. I am new to the site, what are the recommendations for OVCA positive and BRCA1 that you have been given? My genetic counselor told me not to worry about my breasts until we see if I survive 2 years from the OVCA, then have them removed. That was a warm, fuzzy moment, having just gotten the initial news of the BRCA1.

    Any suggestions?

    BRCA1 positive
My doctor handled it the same way; handed me my test results and recommended I have a double mastectomy in a couple of years.

I am working with a naturopath, who is a 21 year survivor of stage IV ovarian cancer. She treated herself, declined surgery and chemo, so I trust that she it onto something good. She is also BRCA1 and BRCA2 positive. Under her guidance, I've had a lot of testing done to identify the imbalances in my body. You see a healthy body just does not grow cancer. Tumors can't get what they need to grow in a body that is balanced. Cancer needs sugar and growth factors and blood supply and the ability to stick together and inflammation. These things aren't present in a healthy body. So I've been using diet, supplements, exercies, and stress management to keep my body healthy. So far, so good. 2 1/2 years NED and my CA-125 is 1.

So, I'm opting, at least for now, to keep my breasts. If this practice I'm following is keeping me free of ovarian cancer, it should be keeping me free of breast cancer as well. I am monitored closely, due to my BRCA status. I get a breast MRI once a year and I have a thermography (instead of mammogram because they are more effective for dense breasts) once a year also. Insurance should cover the breast MRI due to your status.

There are lots of things, that as cancer suvivors, we should not eat. But as BRCA1 positive, you should never, never, ever eat grapefruit. It messes with our p450 pathway which impacts methylation. You should also never take strontium.
