Any info on Doxil?

Mom's numbers are up and they couldn't put her back on carbo/taxol cuz a bad reaction her last chemo. She's made it 9 months. So now doc is starting Doxil. Any info on this one? Did anyone take it? Did it work for anyone? I keep reading how it basically just is palliative and doesn't increase survival time. What should i think?

I am wondering about this too. If we go this route, I'll share experiences. There is no fear greater than the unknown.

    palliative
Hi there... I'm on a palliative care programme. This as I understand means being made more comfortable, but I do think palliative has an outcome of extending life as not having it means that there is no check on the cancer itself and what symptoms it produces. I could be wrong but from what I understand from my condition, I won't ever get better as in cured (barring a miracle cure out there) but part of the palliative programme is designed to knock the disease into check now and then by the use of chemo. Other palliative actions might be for instance, taking painkillers and having fluid removed from the abdomen. So, anyway, from my point of view, palliative can mean extending life. I wonder if anyone else here has thoughts on this because I'd be interested to know more.

    Hi Patsie
My heart goes out to you and I wish you the best each and every day. I am also interested to learn about the best way to live with this disease. There is very little information I can find. The hope for a cure is always there and I really hope this happens for the younger patients. I am just struggling to do what I can to make Mom comfortable and get the most out of each day. I will continue to search and I vow to share whatever I find whenever possible. My sister-in-law, who works in the RX industry has promised to try and look into this..,maybe she can put some of this clinical information into plain English, i.e. those medical papers I read online that are too technical for my level of comprehension. I will share if she has any insights.

    Doxil and Carbo
Hi Best Friend! I posted a note to you on Julies post but not sure you will see it so I will repeat it here.
My remission lasted 9 months also. I went on Doxil as the doctor told me that it had few side effects. It may just keep the cancer at bay rather than killing it but quality of life would be better. They told me one of their patients had been on many other chemos over the years and had found that Doxil kept her stable. She has been on it for 5 years and works and travels. They told me of another lady who had been on Doxil for 5 years and then had a 12 year remission. I am sure these are not the usual scenarios but shows what is possible.
As for the Carboplatin, I too am allergic. Now that my cancer is back, I am receiving the carbo in the hospital. I take Decadron the nite before and the morning of chemo and benedryl with the chemo. Then they run it in over 19 hours. I actually tolerate it better I think because of the extra fluid. I have been told that they can almost always give it in this manner to patients who are allergic.
Hope this helps. Any more questions, please ask me and I will try to help
