Need Good Drugs, 3 MRIs on Wed.

I am scheduled to have 3 MRIs on Wed. Two of my back and one of my brain. I am very claustrophobic. The doctor gave me Ativan but the last time I had an MRI and I took Ativan it did not seem to do anything. Maybe I will take 2 or 3. I asked them if they couldn't just knock my out. They said that they couldn't do that. I may be a screaming idiot by the time they are done. All 3 together are supposed to take 2 hours. Hopefully they will figure out what they can do to fix my back. I have 2 herniated discs that I know of. One in the cervical spine and one in the lumbar spine. Neuro doc gave me Tramadol for the pain. I took a whole pill and felt like a slug. No pain but I didn't like having jello for legs. I took a quarter of a pill and that didn't do anything. I took a half a pill and no pain but I was soooooo depressed all I wanted to do was cry. So I put that bottle away. I would rather deal with the pain.

Send prayers please or at least some better drugs.

Hugs
Donna

I told them that there was really no need for the brain MRI as I didn't have one. My onc didn't see the humor there. She just looked at me like she didn't get it.

    3 MRI's? That is a lot
3 MRI's? That is a lot Donna and I'm sorry that you have to have them. I do hope they can find out what is wrong with your back and fix it easily. I've taken Tramadol on occasion for some back pain, only at night, as it makes me sleepy. I got the best nights sleep with it and it did kill my pain the next day. But, I read somewhere that it was or could be addictive, so, I quit taking it.

I take Lorazepam or Valium when I have a MRI. It totally relaxes me for the back and breast MRI's I get. It is hard however to ever relax in the MRI's as those things are so noisy. It sounds like someone is out there striking a hammer on the machine. I know for some MRI's, they can pretty much knock you out, but, I don't know if that is just certain hospital's or for certain MRI's.

Sending lots of prayers for you!

    To be..
To be sedated the rads tech has to have orders from your attending physician.....before the MRI...personally I don't like Ativan....made me feel like a slug....and is there an imaging center that has an OPEN MRI machine that you could have this done? I go outside the cancer center for mine,.you'd think they'd have one! Are you having these with contrast dye?

I take Zanax before I have any and all scans! I should be used to them by now!

    Keep us posted...we care

    First good luck to you
First good luck to you tomorrow! Secondly, the MRI I have used is an open one, so, I don't feel that claustrophobic in it and I take a nerve pill prior to the MRI to relax me. For the breast MRI, the techs's have a million things at the end of it to look at, so, if you want to look out, it keeps you busy just looking at all of the stuff they have there. LOL I do try to close my eyes and rest, even though the noise of it is loud at times.

Post how you did and your results when you can.
