Doxil

I have been diagnosed with stage 4 endometrial ca, metastasis to liver, lung and an enlarged
lymph node. Went through 6 rounds of Taxol and Carboplatin over 4 months, and then in trial for 2 months, but Ca is back. Dr. wanted to start me on Doxil, and tried 1st dose today, but got a severe infusion reaction..extreme shortness of breath, chest tightening,
and redness and twitching. Infusion was stopped, and symptoms subsided after doses of benadryl and pepcid, and O2, but now Dr. wants me to try this medication again. Has anyone experienced this reaction, and able to stay on the med. It may be the only option left for me. Would love any words of advice. I'll have a discussion, of course, with my Dr. about this, and any other options. Thank you for listening. I'd appreciate any words you have to share.

    scary
That must have been frightening! I'm scheduled to start doxil on thursday - sorry can't help with experience but I am curious about this drug and people's experience. Will doctor change dosage and how it is administered?

I did experience allergic reaction with carboplatin and they added more premeds to prevent reaction and it worked. Others have had longer infusion times where drug goes in more slowly and body tolerates better.

Hopefully doctor has a plan and can eliminate the reaction for you. I wish you the very best. Keep us posted here.

    Doxil
    Thank you Mary Ann,
I hope I didn't scare you about the drug Doxil. What I experienced was very rare.
Just as you mentioned, with your allergic reaction, my Dr. was suggesting possible premeds
and a reduction in amount and timing of infusion to try this medication again. I was too
scared to try it the same day, so we will have a discussion about it, and any other options open for me. Apparently this is the drug of choice for my type of cancer, and probably yours also. I wish you the best of luck. Please keep me posted in how you did
with your infusion. I'm so grateful to have found this site. It's so comforting to know that others are having this journey. All the best to you.

Now that I am feeling better, the nurse in me is coming out and I wish I could use my hands and training to help you. Have courage and keep posting.
If thoughts were therapy, you would be getting plenty.

    doxcil
I too am stage 4 endometrial cancer that has spread to my lungs . I've been doing treatments now since 2010 I was on taxol/carbo then I was on Doxcil. Reaction didn't happen that way to me I had very bad mouth sores that I couldn't eat or talk . For me the doxcil didn't work infact it grew. I just finished taxotere and that seem to just rid of all of the smaller tumors and on going to be on hormone therapy and see if it keeps what I had at bay. I wish you the best

I'm so glad to hear that taxotere worked for you. That is the drug
my Dr. is recommending for me to try. I sure hope I have good success with it
also. I'm supposed to start it this Tuesday. I'm trying to stay hopeful, and this
site is helping so much. What type of hormone therapy are you going on?
I also wish you the best. Keep on fighting. It's so good to know there are others out there
on this journey. It's helpful to know we are not alone.
