PEG TUBE IS BEING PULLED TOMORROW!!

in Head and Neck Cancer #1
I am so thrilled that the peg tube will be gone after tomorrow but have to admit I am a little anxious about what to expect. Don't know how much pain to expect during and after. They tell me I must have a high pain tolerance but I have never thought that. I kind of liked to be knocked out for all procedures,ha ha.

    Peg tube, but just wanted to say congrats that you are getting it removed, its just one more piece of the cancer journey you can put behind you. Hope for little to no pain. Now I will get out of the way so the folks with the answer to your question can do so.

    Boardwalkgirl,

    For me it was a firm tug, pop and swoosh of belly juice and it was over. They put a bandage on it and the hole closes up immediately.

    If you want to see what they pull through go to the bottom of my expressions page (there is a picture inside my stomach).

    I love to be able to roll around in bed without the tube.

    Awesome news..
    This great news, I can not wait together this irritating thing out and begin to eat again. My thoughts will be with you tomorrow as the procedure goes well and the pain is not bad when it was put in (for me)

    It gets taken care of fast- before you know it- tube is out. And, congrats on getting another milestone done.

    Got mine out a few weeks ago
    It was quick like Matt said. Mine was a little tender for a few days much like when it was placed but I must say, I immediately started to feel more human after it was out. No more wondering how to hide it or re taping it and laying on my belly was awesome!!
    You'll be just fine.

    Jason said his hurt for a second when the doc pulled it out, but it was quick and then done. Tender for a day or two after and that was it. He was so glad to get that thing out. Good luck!

    I am one step closer to my new normal. Peg Tube is gone. He numbed it first, which hurt worse than the pulling out, but still wasn't bad at all. I am so glad it is gone. Thanks everyone for the encouraging words.

    Oh girl, I can relate to your excitement!!! (the anxiety too, cuz mine was no easy peasy when it went it)....but to get this thing out is going to be so freeing. Congrats on this...another "graduation" from treatment.

    I'm wholy planning on pushing your Dr's agenda onto my Oncologist...two weeks of maintaining weight with no tube feedings means it's time for the thing to go....I haven't used my tube since the 14th...so by the end of the first week in October, I'm hoping to get it pulled.

    I will be hoping you can get it out soon. It does give you a sense of freedom that I hadn't felt for a while. Keep eating and you will be there before you know it.

    That's very good news, and I'm sure that you're elated. I'm SINCERELY happy for you. The docs thought that I would need the feeding tube, but I ended up going without it. I'll have to read your posts and see what you were dealing with. It's one hell of a trip, isn't it? I'm actually having my port removed Monday!

    Congratulations on the removal (not the UPCOMING removal) of your feeding tube. I'm very happy for you, and glad that it went well.
    Now go on and live your life, girlfriend, you've certainly fought for it!

    Paul, just read your story
    Paul, just read your story and our's were almost identical other than mine was on the right side and they never found a primary sight. My pet scan pre treatment was clear, will have another one on October 23rd. Praying for another clear one. Good luck with the port removal.

    Thanks. What do you mean "they never found a primary site"? I'm confused.What, then, were they actually treating? I'll have to go back and read your posts again. Nope, even better:I'm going to read your history. I'm glad everything is going well with you (the negative PET, etc.). I had my first post-treatmet PET in April and I'm cancer-free (for now...sorry, had to add that). Glad that you had that thing removed: congrats!

    Just read your history. Man, you're right! It WAS like reading mine! As I wrote in the history, they found the primary at the right side of the base of my tongue (again, like yours, squamous cell carcinoma). It was HPV+ which was a blessing in disguise, because apparently that particular cancer responds well to treatment (which mine did). If that "cyst" (actually just like yours, an enlarged lymph node) had not shown up, I would NEVER have known about the tiny tumor on my tongue.
