Smoothies that won't set my mouth sours on fire

Hey all, thought I would catch you all up and pick your brains at the same time, especially Phrannie, because she has or is still dealing with the same problems.. Let me backup a bit. My original treatment plan was 3cycles of the nasty chemo cocktail, by infusion 2 drugs by port, and the 3rd drug via "the pump" 35 days of rads concurrent with chemo. But, that has changed, now I have not 3 cycles but 4 and no chemo with rads. Got through the first cycle virtually unscathed except for my long Fabio locks. Good news is I haven't had to shave but once every 8 or nine days and I'm saving a fortune on razor blades, shampoo and conditioner. Ok finished my 2nd cycle 8 days ago. Today I could eat a horse, however the mouth sores are at the bas of my tongue on the underside and hurt pretty bad. So, can't eat. Came up with idea decided to mix a smoothie, banana, pineapple chunks, milk, mixed berry yogurt . Problem, one of the ingredient set my mouth on fire was awful. I'm guessing it was the citrus acid in the pineapple chunks. I start my 3cycle a week from Thursday and I'm wondering if the sores will heal by then? And will the sores get worse with each cycle? Hope you read this Phrannie or anyone that has had similar experience . If it wasn't for the sores, I'm guessing from the cistoplasm or whatever that Nasty junk is, I would be coasting all things considered. First cycle I lost 12 lbs but packed 9 back on. This cycle I'm down 23. Have a Mic-Key-button but can only do 1500 cals in 12 hours. Any ideas or answers on any of this ramble?

Boy, I'll bet the pineapple just about sent you into orbit!!
I don't understand what a Mic-key button is that you can only get 1500 calories in a 12 hour period of time...you need so much more than that during this time. Is it a type of g-tube?

I was just getting over my mouth sores on a 4 week cycle of Cisplatin, and the 5FU pump which I wore for 4 days...I had about 4 or 5 days of getting my Ensure and VHF down by mouth before it was time for another dose of chemo....and the sores would return within 24 hours after they took off the pump....so I had about 8 days in there that I could take food in by mouth...but I never tried anything but the Ensure and the Boost. I think if you have to get more calories via mouth, you've got to leave all acidic fruit out of it...like maybe peaches would be ok....use half and half instead of milk to bulk the calories as well as protein powder (the kind muscle builders use)....it's got like 400 calories a scoop...1/2 and 1/2 has is 120 calories a tablespoon (nice huh? :))....Also, if you can stand it when the mouth sores are active....whole milk....I'm trying to get calories into you.

Please explain this Mic-Key thing....what is it, and why are calories so limited when using it??

PS....Boost is like 540 calories in 8 oz's....which means I could slug that down, with only short lived discomfort...wash my mouth out with L-Glutamine (do you have this in your arsenal???) and know I've fed myself for a few hours....L-Glutamine you can get at the health food store, and is VERY soothing on mouth sores....better than water which stung for me...L-Glutamine is also supposed to heal mouth sores....for sure it helps them, don't know about the "curing"...

    I forgot to mention....too
that salt and soda mixture is also soothing to mouth sores, and I do believe it helps heal them....I use a lot during the 3 1/2 weeks I'm suffering with them....the L-Glutamine you can swallow, and that helps sores in your throat, and helps keep you hydrated. The worst part about mouth sores is trying to stay hydrated (plain water stung like battery acid), and being dehydrated comes with a host of symptoms...none of which is thirsty...

I looked up the Mic-key tube....have you talked to your oncologist about the fact that you can only get 1500 calories in a 12 hour period? If it should come to pass that you can't take any food via your mouth, you're going to need more calories than that, so I'm wondering 1) if there is something going on with that tube....or 2) if you would benefit from a pump instead of using gravity drip...I'm sure your Doc can set you up with Home Health, and they'd provide the pump and instructions to use it. Just a thought.
