Still crocheting hats for our chemo clinics

I visited my old job today and asked my friend Sherlyn if she needed any more hats. She sells some of them for me to help with my yarn expenses. She told me that she did not need any yet but that she could use some in kid sizes. I asked her why. Turns out a lady in the next office was trying to find a hat to fit her 4 year old daughter who is about to start chemo. I told Sherlyn that I would be glad to make hats for the lady's daughter for free. I was already working on a pink one and it would be no problem to make it small enough to fit a 4 year old. Made me a little sad that it would be for a 4 year old but happy that I could do it for her. I thought I would also make her a white one, like a sun hat and my husband suggest a furry one too. A girl can never have enough hats. Sherlyn said something about the lady saying that the hats needed to be in plastic and she had no idea what that meant but I do. I have to wash them in All Free & Clear and put them in a ziplock bag so that no germs can get on them just in case her immune system is compromised.

I have 40 ready to donate the first week of Sept when I am scheduled to see my onc. I think I will probably make another 10 before then and that way I will be able to give 25 to 2 differnet chemo clinics. I guess making hats for people going through chemo has become my mission in life. It gives me so much joy to do this and I really know how much it is appreciated.

I realy wish that I could send one to every one of the Kindred Spirits on this board but I know that I just could not afford it. So I just have to be happy with what I can do locally.

Hugs
Donna

    You're an angel!!!
You are a true angel Donna! Your post really touched me and I hope that you know just how special a lady you are!

To make all of the hats that you do anyway, and then, to make extra hats for this sweet 4 year old, incase she needs a sun hat or a furry one...you are amazing and so generous!

If everyone were more like you, it would be a perfect world!

Thank you Donna for doing this!

    With admiration and love,

    Sue :)

    Beautiful
It is a beautiful thing that you are doing, and I would love to spread that kindness here in NYC. I just started to Crochet again, so could i ask you to email me directions on how you make them? I was recently diagnosed with DCIS in my right breast, and will be undergoing a lumpectomy this coming Tuesday Sept. 4. So, it would be nice to have something to distract my mind for a while.... and after recovery I can then teach my Girl Scouts how to do it too so we can give them to the hospital to give to the Women and Children who are going through Chemo.

Wow, you are amazing. You have such a giving soul and I love that. My grandmother taught me how to knit a few years ago and we knit caps together to take to the children's hospital. It is so rewarding and a wonderful experience to share with my 80 year old grandma. Keep doing what you are doing. You are clearly a light for so many people.
