Question about SBRT

Hi ,

I'm new to this discussion. I'm usually on the Non Hodgkins Lymphoma group- that's what I've got.

But tonight I found out that my brother has lung cancer. He said that it's a very small tumor and that the doc is going to treat him with 5 days of SBRT. That should be the end of it according to what he was told. He'll then have a PET in 2 months to make sure.

So my questions are : Has anyone else had such a small amount of treatment? He was also offered surgery as an option but is going with the radiation only. Anyone else have a small amount of cancer and go with this option?

Thanks.

Hugs to all,

Concerned Sister

Hello, I just read this on the Inspire Web site today. I copied and pasted it from the web site.

Hi Pooma & Maya, I am NED over six years NSCLC Stage 1, no surgery, just 34 radiation treatments and start of chemo that I stopped due to reaction (Atrial Fibulation). I was inoperable due to COPD/Lung function studies. Actualy the surgeon said he could get me through the surgery but 50-50 coming off respirator. Other than carrying oxygen I lead a good life with family & friends as long as I don't exert myself. No hospitalizations. I was very fortunate & blessed to catch it early. Take care, Bill in S. Jersey

So I suppose that patients will do that and it looks like get good results. I was a 1a and had the vats surgery to remove the lower right lobe.

I wish you and your brother the best. Lori

    Thank you
    Lori,
Thank you. I think that my brother has opted for the radiation only since there will be less down time. I also think he is confident that there will be no down time and I don't believe that is necessarily true. Anyway, I think he decided no surgery although he knows that is a better option for overall long term cure and survival. As far as I know he doesn't have COPD or any other medical reason to not have the surgery. But he keeps a lot from us.

Glad to hear that your surgery went well and I am thinking you are doing great.

I'm going to talk to him more about his decision but I think he is set on it and we need to accept his decision. It does sound like a state of the art procedure. I think I'm a little bit concerned about only 5 radiation treatments! Sounds too good to be true! :)

Thanks for responding and listening. My best to you!

I was back to work within 1 month with no limitations. I have a physical job where I might have to pick up 70 lbs at a time. I was able to do that. I just didn't like wearing my bra, but I would imagine your brother doesn't have that problem. I hope he has looked at all the research and has picked the best tx with his dr for his situation. Lori
