in Lymphoma (Hodgkin and Non-Hodgkin) #1
hi..i have completed 6 cycles of abvd and my pet scan results shows stable disease in mediastinum..My oncologist suggest me to do radiation around 20times..im just curios about the radiation side effect and is there any chances to get secondary cancer by doing it?\
anyone pls i need some help on this..tq

hodgkin lymphoma stage 1b bulky..

    Hi, way to get through your 6 cycles, I have not had to do radiation yet, I still have a uptake in my hip that they are watching, if they told me to have radiation to get rid of it, I would do it. It's unfortunate that there is a chance of side effects or secondary cancer but you have to knock out what you have now..... good luck Vinny

    Hi sunmann,
    So glad to hear you finished treatment and now considered stable. I got the same report when I finished my 6 rounds of CVP-R...stable. I had hoped to hear I was in remission, but stable works for me! I've not done any radiation, nor has it been suggested as treatment in the future for me, but if my doctor said it was something he thought I should do, I would do it. Like Vinny said, we have to fight the cancer we have now and not dwell on thoughts about secondary cancers or what "might" happen down the road. Let us know what they decide to do. I'm sure others who have done radiation will respond soon. Being it's Fathers day weekend, folks are probably on their computers less. Take care and best wishes to you. Sue (FNHL-2-3A-6/10)

    hi thanks for the reply..it will be more useful if who have done radiation share with me here..i know doing radiation is better to prevent now rather than think of sumthing happen later..but if secondary cancer occur still a problem for us right..oncologist told me that if do radiation on mediastinum wil cause difficulty in swallowing food..heartburn something like that..anyone..thanks again sue n vinny.

    I really didn't want to bring it up, but my first cancer was Head and Neck. I had 8 weeks of radiation on my left side of my neck, along with chemo. My oncologist said that the radiation I received had nothing to do with the Lymphoma (which was my most recent cancer). I did lose my taste buds ( but they did come back), water tasted like copper,and I had severe dryness in my mouth, but I was able to swallow. There was discomfort, I'm not going to lie, but the radiation did get rid of all the cancer. The good thing is that the radiation will be concentrated to the area of the cancer. If you decide to go with the treatment, I will be glad to answer any questions you may have...... Vinny
