The American Cancer Society now recommends exercise and diet, at last after about 18 months of sharing my passion for survival of which exercise is the key part, closely followed by diet, meditation and lifestyle.

I am focused on weight training to build muscle mass and yoga to improve flexiblity and blood flow with a strict vegan diet full of plant based protein, carbs and nutrients to allow me to gain weight, ie muscle and have improving health despite positive cancer markers.

The exercise strategy is always trying to work in interval training to get the anaerobic cell cycle. i still hope we will be the fittest group of cancer survivors on the planet. we may also be the longest living with the grace of god.

its a beautiful life, and most mornings i exercise after my daily supplements before breakfast. "Just do it" if you can, any exercise is positive even if its just deep breathing or a walk up the stairs.

This post started out as walking, but we are an open minded bunch and now we have many exercise types listed in the title. Just move if you can.

We also have the unique 100,000km 30 year clinical trial being run here. will anyone make this target, dare is say even earlier than 30 years. It would be just so amazing. Obviously we will all have to live that long to get an invite to the party.

This is the walking post. I am walking to the naturopath right now.
I feel fine, with energy just bad diarrhea. Its good having a bag, I don't have to find a tree anymore. haha

If you have some energy and are well come for a walk with me today. A walk around the world if you will for 10 minutes to 5 hours whatever you can manage. going to do this everyday.

I used to hear " an apple a day keeps the doctor away "

1. What is the relationship between physical activity and colon cancer risk?
Colorectal cancer has been one of the most extensively studied cancers in relation to physical activity, with more than 50 studies examining this association.     today jog with dogs on beach and yoga tonight was great
    i have been exercising most days, and some days i do a double up.
    tomorrow i hope to day yoga and body building.

    i have not been posting as much as i spend most of my time exercising, juicing, doing supplements or meditating and in my spare time i have some fun. so the exercise post has been having a bit of a rest. also for the last few months i have been away camping and on vegan retreats so i have been off the air with regard exercise.

    i have a new secret weapon to improve my exercise, its visualisation. so i look at a big hill and i say i can run up that sucker. sooner or later i get to the top. i am doing the same very tricky yoga positions. visualising doing back aches, and head stands. the visualisation is easy as most of the girls in my yoga class are lovelly they are upside down. only yoga junkies will appreciate this. i highly recommend yoga, the bare foot thing has really helped with my neuropathy. my feet are almost normal, almost! i have lost so much flexibility, in many of the positions it looks like i am not even trying. it would make a really funny video, to see whateveryone else does and then what i can get to. also my bulging hernia almost makes me look pregnant and the wind well thats another challenge. when they redid my plumbing they stuffed up the gas values.

    after yoga i do about a 30 minute steam bath and have about 4 cold showers to break this up. trying the hot and cold therapy to stimulate the immune system. time permitting.

    tomorrow at 6 am i will sneak in another yoga and at 10am i meet guy, a legend. he was the state champion body builder a few years ago, he is a vegan and is very kindly training me for free, so far. he is a saint. he heard my oncs comment about loosing weight on the vegan diet.

    well i think it was like a red flag to a bull. gaining muscle over the next 3 months is a key personal goal. i will prove i can be healthy on this vegan diet and gain muscle and most importantly strength. not just in body, but in purpose, in mind. When my muscles are completely exhuasted and guy says 4 more big fella. I ask myself a simple question in my head "do i want to live ?" he has not questioned my commitment. i don't intend to give him the chance either.

    the key strategy for muscle builidng is i eat protein before the workout and straight after and i have an afternoon nap and a good sleep every night. i image the muscle crushing any little tumours trying to pop out here of there.

    so yoga improves your flexibility, its helped mine alot. it also i think helps your mind to be more flexible. i am so flexible i can twist enough to inject myself in the butt, so i can leave my daughter alseep now days and do it myself. i am still shooting up on steroids, only joking. only artemissinin. i figured i would get an extra shot in tonight as i am doing my markers tomorrow morning and i have been slack at doing this of late.

    given its really late now, i want be getting up at 6am to do yoga. i have spent more time here on csn 128 then in the last month, but i wanted to get some ideas shared and keep the exercise post rolling along.

    anyone else exercising

    ps rely on your own advice, i am just sharing what i am doing.

    pps every breathe is an exercise, you have all been doing with cancer for many breathes now. try a few deep breathes if you can. some alternative radicals have dared to suggest oxygen may have a role in keeping us alive and killing our cancers. use google if interested in this. in my books i have decided to just keep breathing despite the fact my onc has not sanctioned this therapy. JOKE.

    Thank you for sharing what is working for you. I believe we can all benefit from exercising, meditating,and eating healthier food choices.
    My next door neighbor has inspired me more to read labels and we both try to incorporate more dark greens and colorful veggies in our diet as well as watch the glycemic levels. She takes a multitude of nutrients and periodically see's a nutritionist.
    She inspires me as well.

    Does anyone know of a current cancer exercise book? It seems the ones I have found are outdated but theory still applies.

    My form of exercise (for now) is walking. Some days are better then others. I
    am slowly doing more in the house and using stretch bends.
    Visualizing is important for me to push myself to make the distance.
    I must get in shape because work is calling my name very soon.

    Thanks for reminding us how important it is to care for ourselves even if we have to take it a little slower. :-)

    Exercise is so therapeutic
    Exercise is so therapeutic mentally as well as physical. All my troubles go away when i am mountain biking and i feel like i am in total control of my body. It is my way of fighting back.

    This weekend if weather allows will walk lots in the beach, promise it!
    Not done many exercise lately due to my diarrhea cursed by FOLFOX. now I'm off for a while so got the chance to start again!

    I've been slacking,and it shows. I tried on clothes yesterday, and it was quite sad. So today I left my shiny red car at home and walked to work!

    did a good easy yoga this morning and 30 minutes steam bath with 5 cold showers while meditating. that the hot cold immune stimulating therapy i was taught on the health retreat. doing that twice a week.

    as muscle building is the priority at the moment, i am not doing anarobic except on weight training days.

    so we are all moving our bodies, you guys motivate me as well, so thanks.

    especially those on chemo, go pepe go. sorry pepe but take the wipes with you when you walk.

    try and find selcude bush spots to hike in, and if it happens well smile. shiit happens they say, its just way to often when you got crc or not at all.

    remember the post last year, i was crapping by the side of the road in fiji and this old guy on a horse rode past, he did not even smile. maybe he was blind.

    at least when i was folfocked ( i hope you no what that means ) i was bagged. that made the walking with diarrhea easier in a practical sense.

    gail, that shiny red car sounds lovelly. glad you gave it a rest and gave yourself the workout. you need it more than the car. actually its a win win when you rest it.

    thanks jeff, he need all the positive examples here. we are aleady probably the healthiest bunch of cancer patients on the planet. now thats something to be proud of, i am.

    Consider LOMOTIL to control the diarrhea. It sure works for me. I can still remember when it was an adventue to go for the mail ( Box at end of driveway)

    Danker is Lomitol different then immodium. I had diarrhea so bad from the irrinotecan this week i had to go to the hospital to get iv fluids. Immodium didnt help no matter how much i took.

    sorry to hear about the iv fluids in hospital, i had the same when on folfox with the bag.

    well that drove to naturopath that actually got my onto a naturopathic gut rebuild program, that i think worked. i had very little diarrhea after trying natural remedies.

    just a suggestion, i felt great during chemo and never missed a beat. i attribute it to diet, naturopathic gut suppport and exercise and juicing and supplements.

    just some suggestions.

    First Qigong and yoga combination class
    First Qigong and yoga combination class

    i have found a more healing spiritual yoga based on qigong.

    its less intense physically ( which suits the muscle building coachs advice )
    its focuses on moving the qigong energy balls around using yoga poses.

    i did pretty well and fitted right in. i might be going back 3 times a week.

    I have been studying qigong wednesday nights but i have been struggling to get the daily practice done, pretty well overloaded with theory.

    anyway now i have found a great combo class that pretty unique i think.

    funny how the universe provides what we need.

    i hope today was a good day for exercise, if not then its probably been a good day for rest.

    for me the trick is to get both done in the same day.

    Still walking!
    Today I may ride my bike. Trying to get the courage.
    If not, I'll walk....

    Have been adding flex bands and 6 lb. weights for arm exercises e/am.

    It's very warm today so I need to get scooting.

    I will try to check this U tube.

    The exercise helps so much after these surgeries.

    Before my diagnosis in Sept. I had been a regular a
    on the elliptical....

    Thanks for the motivating post. Exercise is good for the mind and soul too.
    Haven't made time to meditate but I figure prayer counts!

    Hey Pete,

    Thanks for the reminder. Beautiful day in Minnesota today...we have had lots of rain lately so nice to have the sun shining for a good long walk or bike ride. If the humidity starts up again here we just step outside and it feels like a sauna! Ha Ha

    I was very fortunate that I have an oncologist that believes healthy eating and exercise is the best medicine to beat this disease! At our first meeting, he said first, don't stop working. Keeping an active normal life style will make your journey so much easier. Second, he said if you don't exercise start now! Schedule it and make sure it is an appointment you always keep. Ok, I wasn't that great about exercising before so I decided if I was going to start now I needed a goal so training for a marathon. Yes, I started my training at the exact time I started chemo! Third, make sure I was eating healthy. I cut out all processed food and as many toxins as I can. Overall my treatment has been easy! There have been a couple side issues not related to the cancer but other than those bumps I have not had nauseu or fatige so his plan must have been the right one for me!

    Chemo was on Wed. and it affects my legs but hoping to ride my bike and return to walking.

    Baby steps, but trying to incorporate exercise with healing. :-)

    Thanks for encouraging this. I agree exercise helps us in preparing for surgery, recovery, and reoccurence. I was in pretty good shape when first diagnosed but for past two years I've increased my exercise and improved my diet. So I'm in better shape for my next upcoming surgery. I walk 4 days a week, and lift 10 lb weights 3 times a week. I manage to do this modest stuff while working full-time. You don't need to overdue it. An added bonus is how this improves one's emotional and psychological health. Every little bit helps. Good health to all.

    Yes!!! LOMOTIL is much stonger than immodium. You need a Drs prescription for it. The pills are so tiny, yet 2 or 3 will always stop the runs. Good luck!!
