Stage 3 cervical cancer questions

I was diagnosed on March 13,2012 with cervical cancer.Stage 3 and it's about the size of a grapefruit.I don't know all the words and terms, thankfully my brother takes notes and understands what the doctors are saying.I spend most of my time looking and feeling like a deer caught in the headlights of a mack truck.
My gyno oncologist visit went good.I will be getting daily radiation and weekly chemo.I have my first appointment with the radiologist on tuesday and I was able to get the local oncologist that I wanted,so that's good.
My question is with the upcoming radiologist visit, what can I expect.I have sat here and tried to find some info on this and found nothing.
I get really scared and nervous about doctors to start with and really want to know what i'm walking into before I get there.
My brother is going with me so I won't be alone.
You know I never had a clue anything was wrong. Not any symptom anything was wrong until the week leading up to being diagnosed I had this pain that I thought was my appendix.
Now I have symptoms that most have leading up to being diagnosed.
My gyno oncologist says that my annoying pain will go away as the tumor (I hate that word so I call it my little alien) as my alien shrinks off of my nerves.
I'm sorry if I don't make a lot of sense,I am very confused at best.
I just want to know what the radiologist will do on this first visit.

    Hi rainy daze,

    Hi rainy daze,

I just finished weekly cisplatin and daily radiation for stage 2 cervical cancer. I'd be happy to answer any questions that you have. Your first visit with the radiation oncologist will be mostly informative where they will give you their version of side effects and experiences and tell you how your treatment will go. I had IMRT for external radiation and two internal radiations. I did not fair badly with side effects, everyone is different and I had surgery before the radiation. Best of luck to you. Keep us posted and feel free to ask anything and everything. I'd love to share my experience.

thank you for your answer. I
thank you for your answer. I don't know why this visit with the radiologist bothers me.I think the whole radiation part bothers me because I have to be in there by myself when the treatments are going on and i'm just so scared and my brother is always right there and I know that's not possible during radiation treatments and it scares me.Weird I know.I'm a unusual person, lol.I know from what i've read that I can talk to the people doing the treatments and everything but well you guessed it...they just aren't my brother.I'll figure it out and get thru it because i've got to do it,in order to get better and that's all I want to do,get better.

Cancer can seem so lonely at
Cancer can seem so lonely at times. It is hard to know that you have to go through it, and go through it alone. But there is so much support out there for people undergoing cancer treatment. As my mother would try and encourage me with reciting the story Going on a Bear Hunt, "you can't go over it, you can't go under it, you have to go through it.". I wish there were more people participating on this board, sharing their experiences with this type of cancer. My cell type was adenosquamous which is rare, and my prognosis is less than desirable. I just have to put my faith in my body and the treatments and my wonderful oncologist who is treating me super aggressive so that I may be around to watch my three kids grow up. I never imagined I would be in this place, fighting for my life at 33. Sometimes this game of life just deals us a bad card, but hopefully the rest of the deck will be in my favor. Good luck to you, and to everyone in this crap cancer battle.

    About your treatment
Hi, I had stage IIIB cervical cancer. I had 28 external radiation after having a radical hysterectomy. At the time the radiation was the easiest thing for me. I would just lay down and think of some place I wanted to go to visit and what I would like to do there, when I got all done with all of this, and before I knew it my time was up. I know it sounds chesses, but it got me though it.
If you have any questions please feel free to ask and I will try to answer them if I can. I am one year out of treatments, so I have been there and had time to deal with it all.
I understand the deer in the headlight, I got my call on Nov 15, 2010, had surgery on Dec. 15, started treatments of radiation and chemo on Jan. 21 and was done by March 12,2011. My head was still spinning at that time that I even had cancer.
The best of luck to you.
