I was just diagnosed with anal cancer yesterday and so have been reading through some posts for info. and keep on hearing about problems with BM's. Were these problems as a result of the radiation? I will be starting my treatment in about 2 weeks.

    Welcome
You are going to hear a lot of this but welcome to the site. We are glad to hear from you but sorry you have this recent diagnosis. The good news is that it is highly treatable and most of the time the treatment is over in a relatively short period of time, compared to many other types of cancers. Most of us here had Squamous cell Anal Cancer and had the six week chemo/radiation treatment protocol. As far as bowel movements go, we are all a bit different. My advice if I may give it is not to anticipate things and try to just take one day at a time. If you have problems of this nature, you can hear all about it from those of us who have this. I have found that I am a bit different post treatment and can't take my diet for granted. I think all of us would say this is true. One thing is for sure, I feel a lot better post treatment than I did pretreatment. Happy Spring Holidays.Nutritionally, it's a good idea to stock up on Boost, or Ensure and lots of carnation instant breakfast and ice cream and yogurt. Believe me, they taste great when you have this treatment. I still am addicted to Frozen Yogurt and have it every night. Treat your self to some nice spring and summer pajamas and nighties and some large very soft men's boxer shorts. The nicest thing about having cancer is you can hang out in your pajamas all day and not every feel guilty about it:-) Stay close. We are here for you.
    All the best,
    Sandy
