Mom is not doing well

She's completely filled up with ascites again, in just one week. She doesn't look good and in the past few days has started having some issues with her stomach. We have an appointment for a second opinion on Monday for chemo, and she has to have a catheter put in tomorrow in her abdomen. At this point, I'm not sure we are going to be able to get her there on Monday. Am very scared and very worried.

    Sorry to hear this, J....
Wish I had the words to calm your fears, but I don't. All I can say is live in the now. Look at this moment and see what you can do to make her comfortable and hold on to her while you can. Take deep breaths and continue shouting here, because we are with you and hear you.

    I hope all goes well.

Same here, only Mom's fluid is filling up her right leg. Elevation with ice is the only thing that keeps it from getting bigger and it hurts like heck. Her morphine has doubled in the last week. The monster is out of the cage. Every time the hospice nurse comes, they address the dilemma -- sleep with lots of pain medication or stay awake and be in pain.

As a caregiver, it's amazing how much work this is! Five hours of sleep is starting to sound better and better.

    had to laugh
The 5 hours of sleep brought back memory's of my husband-Yes 5 hours of sleep would have been so nice then. And I would give anything to have him back with me-But was glad to live in the moments we had left. Can look back and laugh today-cause I hold onto the love we shared and the good times. Besides when he was alive he wouldnt let me sleep.
