hepatitis c

Hey Strangers...Been a long time since I logged on. Kids and grandkids moving up from Fla... lots going on. I've been having to have fluids drained from my belly for months now...usually every 9 days days or so. Last week my GI doc told me that I tested positive for hep c. I don't do drugs, not much of a drinker, and they say blood transfusions are 99% safe since 1992. All my docs call me their 1%er...If something will go wrong, it'll go wrong with me. Has anyone else gotten this through blood? Melodie

    Hi Melodie!
It's great to hear from you again, but I'm sorry that you are having to deal with one more thing! I hope having your family nearby will help lighten your load and lift your spirits!

    Pre-treatment testing?
Hello Dear Girl ... did they test you for HIV and hepatitis A, B, C and others before your treatment? Curious ... you look great! Hang in there! xoxoxo

    Hep C in Blood
Years ago my sister in law's dad had to have a blood transfusion which was infected with HEP C. I am sure they have better screening today than when he had his blood transfusion.

Yes. Ihad all the tests done and I did not show positive before all this. My husband told me tonight that I was no longer of any use to him, I could give him a disease if we were able to have sex again...which has been non existent for 2 years due to treatments and side effects, and he"s taking me off his insurance. So after 18 years together and years of fighting cancer he"s gonna pull ouy on on me. Boy I sure feel great about myself right now. My top 2 on my bucket list were cancer and hepatitis c. Thank god i Achieved all my goals, huh? Melodie

    Hang in there
Melody ... I'm so sorry to hear this. Nothing I can say can take away your hurt, but know we are here for you. Sadly, my girlfriends husband left her mid treatment when she was burned and so vulnerable ... she made it through and is strong and healthy just as I hope you will be too in time. Take care of yourself and perhaps you see a counselor or maybe you could hook up with a support group in your area so you don't feel alone through this tough time. I hurt for you right now and wish you weren't going through your health issues let alone the personal struggles. I see a real survivor in your beautiful photo ... hang in there. Sending you love and a big hug. xoxoxo

I am so sorry that you are
I am so sorry that you are being subjected to abuse, as many of us have been when we've been the most vulnerable with little strength to battle more than is already on our plate. There's no excuse for his behavior.

I also hope well informed doctors (and a good attorney on your behalf) will provide your husband with the facts on Hep C transmission (http://www.cdc.gov/std/treatment/2010/hepC.htm) -- and also have him tested for HIV/Hep C if he will agree and if he hasn't already been, along with taking proper legal action for your safety and rights. Regardless, legally he probably cannot remove you from his insurance.

Lord knows that all of us that have AC are 1%'ers so we totally understand that rare things can happen, but often it is the partner that has not been tested (or who has been tested but has kept it hidden) that does the finger pointing and who has, in fact, been the one that has had the exposure to Hep C/HIV via risky behavior and who has infected his innocent partner. Either way, demeaning you like he did as you being "useless" and denying you medical care is classic abusive behavior. I hope you will seek out advocates that will assist and support you in all ways...medically, legally, and emotionally. http://www.thehotline.org/get-help/help-in-your-area/

I'm very sorry to hear this, but it seems to me that from the beginning of this journey your husband has not provided you with any support, which makes me believe that he will never be there for you. While there will be many challenges for you going it alone, you will get through this and you may find once the transition is made, there will be much less stress in your life. Please tap into all the resources you can right now--legal, medical, etc.--that can help you get through this. There is help out there.

    1st: there is karma you
1st: there is karma you know!! I do not believe he can legally take away your health insurance when you are preexisting. Call over a friend and have them make calls for you. This gives you heads up on everything.....and on him. God bless you. Lorie

Maybe when I am healed I should become an advocate. This kind of behavior makes me furious.

    Hep C
    Hi Melodie,

I don't have any cancer or Hep C, but am apart of Hep C BC as my father has had it for about 40 years from a blood transfusion when he was a kid. I do know lots about Hep C and how it is contacted. I also know lots about the treatment they give. If you have any questions, please feel free to email me emotionalpond@hotmail.com

I am also the caregiver to my partner that has (had hopefully) stage 4a cervical cancer with Hep C. She is now fully cured from the Hep C. They cannot find any traces of it. This is because of the chemo.

Anyways, sorry to hear that your husband is being that way. My mother has been with my father for 36 years and doesn't have Hep C. The changes are slim getting it from sex.

Take The Useless A**hole o The Cleaners
Please contact an expert attorney who deals with divorces. He/She should make certain you get everything you are legally entitled to. Do not rely on any settlement from his attorney until you have legal representation. Otherwise you may be screwed out of your total divorce entitlement. BTW once you reach retirement age you can draw the higher of your Social Security benefit or 50% of his. You can draw off your ex-husband's until you are 70 then elect to draw off yours which will be your maximum benefit. If this amount is more you can draw this for the rest of your life. Also in the event you remarry and are married for at least 2 years to your second husband should he die or divorce you can also draw off his Social Security benefit as well as your first husband's Social Security. I attended a friend's fininancial advisor seminar. She had a lady who retired from Social Security after 35 years of service and told us a lot of people are unaware of this.

    What a jerk!
So glad you have your kids and grandchild. Your husband has not been there for you for any of the time I have watched this board carefully. This last blow hopefully will open up a better life for you. He, in my opinion is a drag on your recovery and future happiness.

Thank you for the advise. I also did not know those few facts about social security. I will definitely look into it. He's trying to apologize and say he didn't mean it...too little, too late. Happy Halloween to all, my little one is going as a unicorn. Too cute. Love y'all, Melodie
