Sitting here eating my blow of oatmeal and just amazed at how good it taste, and to think I use to hate this stuff, boy how things change after treatment. My wife makes it for me in the morning to take to work and in the evenings for me right before I go to bed. Trying to fatting me up I guess.

You know it taste good when you lick the spoon more then one to make sure you get all the flavor off of it. lol

    My morning meal
Every day with walnuts, cranberries, raisons, banana, and a little honey on top. Sometimes I actually get a little oatmeal on the spoon.

Haven't gotten the taste for anything except salad. I think I read in something Hondo wrote that one of the first things he was able to eat was red beans and salad, so i tried the salad and it was good. Thanks Hondo.

    Awesome
It is so wonderful to taste again. Buzz's first indication his taste was coming back was when he sipped a diet root beer I was drinking. The expression of wonder and delight on his face was priceless. I hope you get to experience more discoveries as you taste more and more. Karen

    Radiation Taste

After my first radiation treatment I could taste pretty good; just about everything came back especially KFC fried chicken, I could not stay away from it. But then after the second radiation treatment, well let’s just say when I can taste something for more then two bites that is wonderful and I think oatmeal is one of them.

I had some left over oatmeal for brunch today with two fried eggs on the top. Savory oatmeal. Made with onions, carrots, ginger, garlic, green onion and chicken stock. Not a big fan of sweet oatmeal, but after I found out that you don't need to make it sweet, I eat it 2-4 times a week.

Great idea Sweet, that's what I call cooking outside of the box. I'm going to try it. I eat my French toast that way. A lttle margarine or butter, and a little salt on top.

    Also good with mushrooms and
Also good with mushrooms and onions. Leftover sausage and peppers. Leftover vegetable curry. You can sort of think of it like you would make a rissotto.

I also like French toast sometimes. I stuff it with things like banana and Nutella. Almond butter and jelly. Or ham and cheese. I want to try cheddar, bacon and apples next.

    Canned Spinach
LOL, I have always liked canned (and fresh) spinach, actually all greens.

Anyways, the spinach with a little cider vinegar...was one of the things even at my worst, I could still seem to taste.

The DelMonte sliced peaches in the jar with light syrup was also something I ate all during treatment.

    Best,
    John

    Me too with the salad
What is up with the salad? Don't know but it's what I like now, salad, tomatoes, cucumbers and ranch dressing. I also tried mustard tonight and loved it, guess I'll have to try red beans.
Finished treatments 7 weeks ago, still mostly on ensure but try to force one or two small meals a day.
Keep the ideas coming, I listen to them all!

    enjoyed
First thing I enjoyed was a poached egg. Could only get down a few bites but now I can eat the whole egg and some toast!
It's funny how our whole lives we take for granted eating and swallowing. Now I am so grateful for all that I can eat.
Lately I have been craving sauteed onions (?!). I was at the Farmer's Market today and bought about 10 Candy onions, which are very sweet. I saute in olive oil till they caramelize and eat them with just about everything except ice cream!! lol

    Hondo,

Like you, I have always hated oatmeal, but for some reason, after my stay in the hospital in February of this year, out of the blue I told my husband I would like some oatmeal. After making sure I wasn't running a temperature (he knows how much I have always hated it), we went to the local market and found McCann's Irish Oatmeal (Apples & Cinnamon) and I loved it!

I buy the little packets and now have 1/2 cup in the morning to take my meds and 1/2 cup at night about an hour before bedtime. It really helps me sleep at night. Not sure if it is the warm milk or the cinnamon or the oatmeal itself. And like you, I almost want to lick the bowl clean!!!

Maybe we're on to something here.......hmmmmm.....

I love them. I average an onion a day with my cooking. I only cook for myself and I just brought home a ten pound bag of onions from Sam's Club. Love the smell of onions cooking. Nothing better. Well, maybe bacon and onions together, might win out. Caramelized onions. Mmmmmmm

Have any of you bought the steel cut oats which come in a can? They are more like pellets than flakes and have a nutty flavor. And I live alone and DO lick the bowl clean!!

    Hi Nancy

I will give them a try, not sure I can lick the bowl because the tongue don’t work like it once did so I need a little piece of bread and get it just as clean.

    Thanks for the tip

    Big Bowl

My wife just came and asked what I would like for supper and I told her a big bowl of Oatmeal. She can back a little while later and said your Oatmeal is ready, I went in the kitten and she got the biggest bowl she could find and filled it to the rim. I got my spoon and started in on it and a little while later I told her well that should hold me for a few hours, she looked and the bowl was cleaned. Now I am worried I will be an Oatmeal freak, oh well is all I can say. lol

    Thanks
