Should I get the flu shot before starting chemo?

I start chemo on Thursday and am thinking about getting the flu shot before I start. Does anyone know of a reason why this is not a good idea? I intend to ask my doctor too.
Thanks

    Sounds like a good idea
I don't know how long it takes to build the immunity against the flu from the flu shot but you might want to find that out BEFORE you go on chemo.

Check into the shingles vaccine while you are at it.

    I had my flu shot
before chemo, they gave it to me while I was still in the hospital from surgery. My spleen was removed so I had 4 shots in one night.Check with your onc. to make sure. Everyone is different. Good luck with your chemo..val

    Flu Shot....
I asked the question about flu shots and was told that I could get it on the first day of my next round of chemo. They want your counts at their highest. It sounds like it will be given to me by one of the chemo nurses. I just needed to remind them.
