HELP --- Questions about Liposarcoma

Hello,

I have a tumor on the top of my left thigh. The MRI showed it as a possible lipoma. After much research I have found that Liposarcoma is often misdiagnosed as a lipoma. I also have a large mass in my left calf that has not had a MRI yet. I am concerned about this so I called University of Michigan Sarcoma Center. I faxed them my MRI report and they want to see me right away. I have an appointment on 8/12/11. I am curious about anyone elses symptoms, and/or, what your tumor looked like. My thigh is swollen across the top of my thigh in almost a wide rectangular shape. The tumor in my calf is the size of a medium apple and is more pronounced when I flex my calf. You can feel it either way, it's just easier to see when the calf is flexed. I have also found another mass on my right leg above my knee in the same rectangular shape as my left thigh. Both of my thighs are swollen in those areas and puffy feeling. I have also had severe abdominal pain for the past few months which has gone from every few weeks to almost everyday. It was believed to be ovarian cysts up until recently. My Gynecologist wants to do exploratory surgery to see what is causing the problem because my external and internal ultrasounds only show fluid and nothing else. I have also lost my appetite and don't know if it's the pain, my nerves, or an actual symptom. Please let me know what you think from your experience and if you have had any similar symptoms. Thank you so much for anything information you can offer. I wish you the best!!!

Kris

    Need Biospy
I have had multiple liposarcomas since 1998. They usually initiate in the limbs, so the masses in your leg(s) may be related. You need to get a biopsy of the masses that you have. This can be done by needle or by incision. My history has had one tumor at a time (and this seems to be standard from what I have read ...but not absolute).

Get the biopsy as soon as you can. Medical time is always slower that human time, so try to make things happen quickly. Be your own advocate or have someone there to do it for you. Hopefully they are all benign.

    Symptoms
Thank bmscan for the info. I have an appointment with an oncologist the Friday 8/12. I am sure they will do a biopsy, I don't know if they will do it in the office on Friday or if I will have to have them surgically removed. The things I have read about usually only mention 1 mass. I wonder if there is anyone on here that has had more than one at a time? I am also curious about your symptoms. Thanks again for any information you can offer me. I wish you the best and will keep you in my prayers.

    Is There A Plan Yet?
I try to keep checking back on these discussions, but miss them some times.
I hope that you have a medical plan by now. My experience was a little more methodical and only one tumor at a time. I wrote a two page history of my first 10 tumors under "Liposarcoma - 10 years, 7 tumors..." which gives an upbeat account of my adventures. I have had another 2 tumors and complications since, but still kicking.
Read my discertation and let me know if it helps.
...And let us know how you are doing!
