Mom is now having chemo one day a week, every three weeks for her stage 4 lung cancer that has spread to an adrenal gland and nearby lymph nodes.

Does anyone know about the chemo drugs Alimta, Avastin and Carboplatin (sp)? This is the concoction she will be having six rounds of. Curious the side effects you've experienced so that I am prepared to help her.

Im glad theres a plan for Mom!
My Mom was on carbo/alimta once every 3wks was hers, and scans I believe after 4 rounds of that. She tolerated it well. Wishes she was back on that instead of the one she's on now, if that gives you any insight :)
She had the usual loss of hair, tiredness and experience 2 different times during the course flu-like symptoms and lasted 24hrs each time.
Each person handles things diffrently, hope Mom handles treatment well!
Stay strong, stay positive and keep the faith.

    Hello
My mother in law (67 years old) is also going to begin her combo treatment of carbosplatin and avastin for her lung cancer that has spread to the adrenal gland and possibly the bone (they see some hot spots on her spine in the scan) I though the alimta prevents the hair loss? We all are optimistic that this will shrink the tumors. Any information or personal experience woulb be appreciated. Thank you.

Thank you- as long as there
Thank you- as long as there is a plan there is hope.

The meds my mom first took was supposed to make her lose her hair but it only thinned it. The doctor this time said this concoction wouldn't make her lose her hair, but it is now thinning....I guess you can't really predict with each person.

She tolerated her first round ok. She got sick to her stomach a few times and was very tired but that was it. She has to have 6 rounds with scans in between. Waiting for the scans isn't easy.

Mom's doctor said she wouldn't lose her on those meds but mom has noticed some thinning. I suppose everyone's body handles it differently. I hope that your mom in law tolerates it well and it will help her tumors go away!
