Birthday Blessings

Saturday Rickie celebrated his 55th birthday! It is a day 10 months ago we were afraid we would not get to celebrate. I want to thank everyone here for their support, love, and most of all prayers, that have allowed us to come this far. Everyday is a blessing and I know how lucky we are.
After his esophageal stretch last week, Rickie spent 6 days in the hospital for bleeding. Apparently there was a tear and a blood vessel was bleeding. He was released from the hospital late Thursday night and so far has been doing well. Today he went in for his scheduled chemo treatment. We return to MD Anderson the 8th of August for scans to see how this round of chemo is going. My biggest concern now is will this cause scar tissue that will only make it more difficult to have a stretch the next time he needs one. I am trying to be optimistic and look on the bright side; at least he is able to eat now.
Again thanks to all of you for your concern.
Cheryl

    Happy Birthday
I am so happy to hear that Rickie is able to celebrate his birthday with you!

And oddly, today is Lee's birthday (49), but unfortunately he's feeling so incredibly poorly today that it's not much of a celebration for us. We ended up heading to the emergency room, only to discover a line up out the door for treatment. So, we headed home, there is no way he could sit there for hours on end the way he's feeling. We'll head back at the crack of dawn tomorrow if he's not feeling better...

But, alas..... I came on to wish Rickie a wonderful birthday week, and may his health stay with him as he faces chemo.

    Chantal,
    I so sorry to hear

    Chantal,
I so sorry to hear Lee is feeling bad. I know what you mean about ERs. When we walked into ours last Saturday morning at one o'clock, it looked like the whole town had shown up there. People in our area tend to use it as a Dr. Office/Night clinic. Lots of small children who probably don't really need to be there, but if they go there it is paid for, where as if they go to the doctor's office they have to pay. Really clogs up the system for everyone.
I do so hope Lee is feeling better. Make sure he stays hydrated. We noticed that when Rickie's blood pressure goes down, he usually needs some fluids. take care, Cheryl

Well Cheryl, here in Canada, we don't pay for any doctor visits or treatments, but there is an overwhelming shortage of doctors, so the ERs are crowded, as many people just can't find a doctor. We do have walk in clinics and urgent care clinics, so i have no idea why people feel the need to go to the ER with a headache or sore foot. It's so frustrating for those of us who truly NEED medical care. The same is true for having tests and surgeries done. The thoracic surgeon we saw before we found out our inoperable stage told us she only gets one operating room shift a month! Outrageous!!!

We're trying to keep him hydrated and fed, but between the vomiting and lack of desire to eat and drink, it's been challenging. I was hoping they'd give him iv fluids today, but I guess it was just not in the cards for us.. maybe tomorrow!

    You take care as well,
