AML M5 Blood Counts recovery time after Consolidations

Hi, Question for people that have gone thru treatments for AML? How long did you go in between consolidations? My wife had her 1st consolidation in Jan 2011 and her counts came up very slowly the doctor told us. The doctor almost didn't want to do a second one because he was concerned her marrow could be at risk. She just had 2nd one in May and finished on May 7 ( 4 weeks) from finishing but her counts are still rising slowly he says. What is normal time? Her WBC this week was 2.8( Normal would start at 4.1) Hemogloblin 9.2( Normal would start at 12.1) Platelets were at 53( normal would be at 140). Has anyone had issues with a slow rise of counts? Her doctor is concerned about doing consolidation # 3. What is the normal time that the body should recover between each consolidation. Our doctor said if he decides to do another one he would maybe do it around August. Any help that someone could tell us would be appreciated.

    AML & consolidations
Hi - As they say, different strokes for different folks. In my case, with my counts returning to post consolidation normal, I had treatments about every four weeks though after my third consolidation counts went down further than other consolidation and took a little longer to recover. And I also know of cases where the time between treatments was much longer! It is really up to individual recovery from the treatment and amount of time is up to your doctors. If in doubt, get a second opinion.
