    I believe
Hi, Just a little note to let you know that I believe even BEFORE I read this new book from a child. It is in Costco or on line at heavenisforreal.com The book Heaven is for real is told about a family.

I loved it. I am going to share it with someone special, dont know who yet but, husband is going to City of Hope here in So Cal. So, we will see.

    All My Best,

    Cherie

    Heaven is for Real
I just heard about this book and I went to the library to check it out.

The story is about a four-year old boy (Colton) who had emergency surgery, left his body, went to heaven and returned to his body. Colton said he met his miscarried sister, whom no one had told him about, and his great grandfather who died 30 years before Colton was born, then shared impossible-to-know details about each.

He describes the horse that only Jesus could ride, about how “reaaally big” God and his chair are, and how the Holy Spirit “shoots down power” from heaven to help us.

The local library owns over 100 copies of the book and I am the 553 person on the reserve list.

I have to be patient...and stay alive so I can read this book. Hahahaha!

Your question gives flight to my belief
In asking the question "The afterlife, does it exist?", you draw on my fundamental, spiritual belief about why we are here in the first place. I describe what I believe without any need for others to hold similar views, nor to do I invite - or want - debate about why I believe them. They are inside me.

I believe in life after death. Always have. For me, we are spiritual beings having taken on a physical form in order to learn from our experiences, happy as well as sad. I believe in reincarnation, and that in between each lifetime there is a spiritual review of all that we have learned, and what is most important to learn next. I believe we also chose the people with whom we will learn those lessons in this lifetime, the joys as well as the tragedies. In that respect, I don't have a morality as such. What is 'right' or 'wrong', 'good' or 'bad' are all concepts based on subjective experience, not on spiritual truths. That is not to say that hurting someone is acceptable, or that we don't experience pain as terrible. To hurt someone on purpose directly goes against my fundamental belief - that we are all connected. It is only in ignorance of that that we think we can get away with hurting each other without consequence for ourselves - if not in this lifetime, then in another. How individual experiences help us to achieve awareness of our connectedness cannot always be understood (at least not in the half light in which resides our physical form) but I do believe it to be true.
In the end, I believe that the sum of all our lessons from all of our lifetimes goes to helping us not only to believe in our connectedness, but to experience that fully. To experience fully our connectedness is, for me, to experience what might be called God.

    Hi Bluerose
I think that how you approach your spirituality makes a lot sense to me. It's a personal thing where there are so many beliefs that have come about since mankind first questioned their existence and first realized that they were mortal. I do not think that many people want to think that this is it and that there isn't a great reward afterwards or that we will never see those we loved while on earth.
So taking bits and pieces of various beliefs is great (in my opinion) because you can get the best experiences and use them to help yourself get through (this) life.

    How's that saying go?
"If there's an afterlife I'll tap you on the shoulder once. If not, I'll tap twice"

PS: is that one of your roses?

    Hey Phil
I like everyone else down here on this crazy planet have no definitive answers but like I said before my spirituality works for me.

Nope that is not a rose of mine, a picture I found on Google Image. Actually it is impossible to create a blue rose in nature although many have tried. The best they get that they call a 'blue' rose is usually more of a purple or blacker rose.

I actually chose the name Bluerose a long time ago after the central character in the Tennesse Williams play 'The Glass Menagerie'. Do you know the play? I even created a glass menagerie like Laura, the key character had, lol. It's a great play if you haven't read it.

Why am I sure that there is 'somehting else'?
I think the key reason I am so sure that there is an afterlife is because I personally experienced a healing and after that you can't help but know that there is indeed a higher power and that we are indeed being taken care of, sometimes not in the way we would life but I really do believe that there is a Bigger Plan.

I think that when a person actually is touched by a higher power in one way or another, and KNOWS IT, because trust me when it happens to you no matter in what form - you will KNOW IT. It's a feeling like you have never felt before, never. You just KNOW.

I wish I could share that feeling with everyone. This is the reason though that I feel so sure, I experienced part of it personally.

I wish the same for you all.

    Hi BlueRose
"Spirituality can refer to an ultimate reality or transcendent dimension of the world; an inner path enabling a person to discover the essence of his or her being, or the “deepest values and meanings by which people live.” ..."
I used this simple dictionary that is on the internet to see how it defined "Spirituality" and I really like how they define it. It really is something that is unique to each of us.

That's interesting about the Blue Rose, they have so many colors but blue evades them. I've noticed that many roses are not that fragrant, I guess they are bred for color and/or longevity. My Mom used to have this red rose bush that would only have 2-3 roses on it a season but I have never smelled any other rose as fragrant as that one was.

I've heard of Tennessee Williams and The Glass Menagerie but I'm really not familiar with the story. I know A Streetcar Named Desire better. "Stella...STELLA..."

Healing and the experience of what is real
    Hi Bluerose,

I haven't been able to reply to your question till now. Even now, it is hard to do because I think what you and I have experienced has been, perhaps necessarily, different in that the experience of something larger than ourselves is, for each of us, such a very unique experience.

My experience of healing is not a one-off thing. It is something that has been close to me for very many years. And I have never associated it with the presence of "God". You see, I don't believe in God except as a state of Godhood, to which we as spiritual beings aspire. That state would come about when we all truly experience ourselves as one whole and not separate people. I believe that all of our experience leads us in one way or another toward that goal, that the body is just the (present) vehicle for learning the lessons to accomplish that goal.

When I speak of healing from a higher power, it is for me the experience of being brought out of a state of pain or anguish by becoming aware of something that transcends that, something that lifts me into a more beautiful state of feeling. It is always spiritual, and usually it is the form of insight which arrives intuitively or from within. Never from without. I think that's the difference between my experience of healing and that of many who describe 'spiritual healing'.

For me, the strongest form of spiritual healing occurs when I get in touch with what is already inside me, but at a higher level. I believe we all have a "higher self" - that part of oneself which is most closely attuned to Godhood (as I have described). It is that part which needs no belief or understanding to experience ourselves as something more than just our body. And it is that part which can communicate with other spiritual beings, more evolved than ourselves, not in body themselves, who can help us in our pain. I refer to those other spiritual beings as my 'helpers' or my 'spiritual guides'.

My experience of healing can look different at different times.

I was walking down a nearby street feeling very down. Thought I could not feel worse. Then, in an instant, without any reason for it happening, I knew that a spiritual guide was present with me, pulling up my feeling and giving me an insight that said "That's not true. This is true" and in that moment, I knew that everything was allright. No reason. Nothing heard or spoken. Just a feeling of the presence of a spiritual guide.

On another occasion, I sought the service of a spiritual counsellor - with the specified direction that the counsellor provide for me not the understanding that *she* had but instead the space I needed to find my own, someone who also believed in spiritual guides and their ability to bring understanding and healing. Hard to find someone able and willing to do that. She needed not only to sense my guides but to trust them as well. I found such a person, and the work we did together was by far some of the most healing work I've ever done.

There have been too many moments to count when I have experienced the presence of my spiritual guides - guarding me, uplifting me, freeing me of emotional pain. Of physical pain, I cannot speak very much. I've experienced very little in my life. Even since having cancer, I've had very few side-effects. It is the mental disturbance that remains for me the most painful part of my experience. Always has been.

Healing for me now wouldn't require the healing of cancer, but the healing of my relationship to myself and to others. Being free of cancer wouldn't give that to me. Part of my spiritual belief is that we don't die before it's our chosen time to die (chosen before we were born). It also includes the belief that challenges exist to help us learn something. Physical illness and emotional pain both provide such challenges. I definitely don't believe in a judgemental "God". I don't believe in a God to start with, no-one sitting in judgement of us and no punishment metred out in the form of illness of any kind.

I believe that there is an experience of love that transcends where we are in this moment. I believe that we can all access it when we are in touch with our own higher self. It is that experience of a higher love that is the experience of healing for me. It is also why it is never very far away.

It is certainly true that I may not be able to access that healing when I consciously most want to - typically when I'm coming from a position of identifying with pain or lack as I strive to achieve it. The only way to access such healing is to let go, or have it occur spontaneously - despite yourself. You have to believe that such love exists, then you have to get out of your own way.

It was hard to say such things because it is such a personal experience. My belief and my experience of such healing does not imply any judgement on anyone who doesn't share it with me. Neither can anyone else's experience discount mine. We must all of us live true to ourselves.

Yes, my experience of healing is, like yours, exquisite, transcendent and real :)

    It's about quality not quantity
for roses I mean, referring to your comment about your Mother's rosebush. All the fragrance was put into the 2 roses instead of being spread amongst many so that's probably why the smell was so powerful.

The Glass Menagerie was made into movies, twice I think, and of course it is a stage play too. It's a simple story with alot of life messages in it, love that play. I actually have a glass menagerie like Laura, the lead character had, not sure if I mentioned that but all my animals are very tiny and totally clear, I think hers were all colors. Just love the whole idea of the play. I have had blueroses both dyed and tinted through dye in water over the years and when they do them right in the water dye they come out so pretty. They take white roses and leave them in blue tinted water (a special flower dye) and over a couple of days the roses suck up the color and turn them blue. So pretty.

Well that was probably way more than you needed to know but you know me, get me on a roll and I'm off to the races. lol.

    Great subject. I believe,
Great subject. I believe, without a doubt, in an afterlife. Exactly what it is, who knows, but there is something else. There have been countless occurances in my family's history that convinced all of us there is an afterlife. One such incident was in the 1970s, about a week after my Grandfather (my mom's dad)passed away, at age 75. My Mom and her sister were visiting my Grandmother, sitting in the livingroom talking when the phone rang. These were the old, black, "Ma Bell" phones with the actual bell inside. The phone didn't actually ring but more like the bell rang like a half ring. My Grandmother picked up the receiver and said hello. My Mom says they looked over at her and her face went white and she hung up the receiver. They asked what was the matter and she said "that was your father". They asked what she meant and she said the voice on the phone was her deceased husband of fifty four years and he said "Marie, are you still there"? Now, she was married and lived with him for many, many years and she knew his voice like her own. They all sat there unable to talk for a couple minutes then gradually discussed it. My Gradmother said that she and my Grandfather had once talked about whether they would want to go on if either died. My Grandmother lived nearly 20 years more and died at the age of 91. She was at peace knowing her husband was waiting for her. No one can explain things like that but it's too bad we didn't have caller ID back then.....
    Take care, Chris

I wonder what the caller ID would have said if they had it then?
Interesting to think about it isn't it? I totally believe things like that can happen, a loved one reaching back to someone that he once had a strong bond with. What a great feeling that must have given your Mom and the whole family.

    The Afterlife
I do believe that there could be an existence after this life. I think I know more of what it's NOT that what it IS but I think that our energy continues on in some form.
Here is an interview with Karen Armstrong, a well noted theologian who offers some interesting ideas based on beliefs of past civilizations.
If you have an open mind you may enjoy it. If you have a closed mind it might open it up.

I personally have not had an afterlife experience but I do have a good friend who had a near-death experience which I believe he experienced.

    Phil, try meditation
If you know someone who knows Transcendental Meditation ask them to teach it to you. It's easy, only takes a minute. That is how I astro projected once, without even trying to do it, floated right up and out of my body - looked down on myself meditating. Bit of a shock that was. Even if you don't go out of body you will feel like you had a nice long nap after only 20 minutes of meditation. That's got to be helpful all on its own.

    Take care.

    Hi Maddie
First let me thnk you for sharing your experiences and feelings and beliefs. I have always felt it's so important to share what we have learned not only in the cancer journey but throughout our lives, what's the point if we don't share what we have learned? I believe that the soul grows with each 'incarnation' of whatever you wish to call it and earth is simply one such 'school' for the developement of the soul.

I do believe that there is a God but each of us is indeed part of the whole and how that works, people wiser than me are still struggling with all of that of course. I just have this KNOWING and I have zero idea why that is.

You said "The only way to access such healing is to let go, or have it occur spontaneously - despite yourself. You have to believe that such love exists, then you have to get out of your own way.". That is so true. When I had the one on one with God in the healing it came on spontaneously and I was totally open and truly believed in Him. If I had known of healings and was asking for a healing proper I think I would have 'been in my own way' and it wouldn't have happened. Too structured.

I might have not explained myself correctly in my posting(s) but I have encountered this power from the inside too. It was a kind of telepathy is the best way I can explain it. It answered questions I was asking as the healing was happening but I was only asking them in my mind, not outloud. For instance I said 'what the heck is happening here?' when the line of heat was descending down my body, and right after I asked that question a 'voice' said 'this is a healing and it's from God'. The message infered it was God who was speaking but it didn't say so plain out. But I knew. It also said 'And it won't be back'. Meaning the cancer. That's all I heard. That was quite enough.

An amazing peace came over me and later I realized that even with something as totally awesome as it was that was happening to me I was never afraid. Freaked out a little when I first felt the line of heat but then I just kind of surrendered to it just knowing it wouldn't hurt me and that it was going to help me. But it did come from within.

I don't believe there is a God that sits up there on His throne, rather I think that God lives within all of us - each a small part of the whole but needing to be made worthy of such a position to the whole. Hence the long journey to reach nirvana.

Thank you for all of your insights and your sharing of your experiences. I'm sure that it will open people's minds to possibilities and others to realize that they are not alone in having spiritual experiences.

    Take good care Maddie.

Thank you from the heart ((((( hugs )))))
Few replies have touched me so much

Will try to copy a photo that you might like here .. here's hoping that it works:

It seems to have. I uploaded it to my "Expressions" page under my profile page. Click on my avatar alongside this then click on "Expessions. Then, if you click on the photo itself, you will see it in larger format.

Bluerose, you're one of the people that makes these forums so special for me, especialy as you reconnect me constantly with what drives me, what gives me my greates strenth.

There are not enough thank yous for that xxxooooo

(Having recenty been keeping "normal" hours, I've got back into staying up all night. Will go to bed now and hope to slep in. Either way, I'll catch up on rest.

    Back at you Maddie !!
Thank you for your kind words and I am so glad that you find strength in the postings and in this site. I have always said that you just never know when a kind word or soemthing you talk about will help others so much and you just thought of it as any other remark when you originally wrote it. I love when that happens. Words are indeed powerful as are shared experiences. Funny thing is that before I checked in with the site this morning I wasn't feeling well at all but felt I should check the site as it had been down and found your posting here. I read it and was touched with what you said to me and you know what? It gave me energy and I felt totally better and now am not dreading having to go out on a necessary errand this morning. Thank you for that. This site is magic sometimes I feel, things like this happen all the time on here, people sharing and people who need it see the messages and it gives them hope and strenght. I don't know how many times I have gone into chat too, don't go in there nearly as much as I used to so it makes it even more unreal when I do enter there always seems to be a reason why I do and others tell me the same thing too. Always someone who has come in, often for the first time, who needs to hear a certain message and there is usually something in what is said that does the trick and they say so. Amazing place this is, very special. So thank you for that too.

I hope you got the sleep you need and look forward to more of your postings as well, talk about inspirational - you can really write there Missy. lol.

Thanks also for the picture of the dogs, so sweet. I emailed a copy of it to a lifelong friend who has a dog just like the border collie in your photo, she will enjoy that, I added the tag you had on it as well.

Have a great day and talk with you soon.

    Hugs,

    This is odd
Why is it that I can't read any of Mariam's posts? They just come out with an 'x' in the space where there is a subject and the posting. Why is that, anyone know?

    I assumed she changed her
I assumed she changed her mind about whatever she had posted and removed it. Maybe she didn't have the option to delete the post.
