Iodine resistant with lung mets -surgical lung biopsy

After my recent 5millicurie dose of I-131 and WBS we've concluded I am no longer avid for iodine. To confirm that the nodules in my lungs are thyroid cancer and not something else, I will be undergoing a surgical biopsy with a cardio-thoracic surgeon. Haven't met with that specialist as yet so don't know all that it entails. Anyone out there ever have this done? The nodules in my lungs are not in spots that are conducive to just sticking a needle in from the side. On the plus side, perhaps the surgeon will remove one entire nodule rather than just taking stabs at it.

    Lung biopsy
Hey alapah. I had the lung biopsy last year in June. The thoracic surgeon cut a piece of my lung to biopsy the nodule. He went in from my upper left side and it went well. He found that the cancer that was growing in my lungs was still thyroid cancer. I'm still doing chemo every three weeks just to keep the nodules stable. My onco says, there's nothing to get rid of it. Let me know how it goes for you. I wish you the best.

    all suggests thyroid cancer...
but I had a surficial melanoma removed in 2009 so we decided we need to make sure. i still have Tg and TgAB and the growth certainly acts like thyroid cancer. i guess the best nodule to check, sizewise, is not in a good spot for a standard biopsy so I have to be put under and go through a proper surgery. i've been told they don't crack your chest for this - i hope not! still, gotta do what you've gotta do. i actually feel pretty fine so i suppose i am lucky in that regard. not sure if they will try chemo just yet as it's 'moderate' growth and i feel ok. how are you doing veronica?

Hoping the best for you both
I am hoping the best outcome for both of you. Stay strong, this must be very difficult. Keep up the positive attitudes and keep us updated.

    Hi eileen.
I'm doing ok. I'm just holding on to hope and taking one day at a time. They don't crack your chest. They make a small incision in your upper side and biopsy a small piece of the lung. I wish you the best and keep in touch.

    Hi Veronica
I soooooo feel for you. I really cling tight to God. I am doing okay. Best I can without a thyroid, as we all know. I need to follow up with my Endo within the next couple of weeks. I haven't been back since the Biopsies in March came back negative. He wants to see me every three months, so it's almost time.

I am currently adjusting to some changes with my job. I transferred to a new office within the company I work. Our company has fifty-three medical offices here in Tucson and surrounding areas. The new office is much closer to my home so I have much less driving, gas money and I save a ton of time on the road. I don't particularly like the doctor I work for as much, but maybe we will get used to each other eventually. This clinic is really busy and I am working lots of overtime so I haven't been able to schedule an appointment for myself. I really just need to do it. Okay, that's it I have convinced myself that I am more important than my job. I am going to call tomorrow for an appointment.
    Blessings to you,

    Hi Julie.
I know how important your work is. But you are more important than your job. Please call for an appointment. You don't want to not know what's going on with you. Maybe you can schedule for after work.

I'm trying to survive on disability. I still apply for jobs. But nobody ever calls back. My bills are driving me crazy trying to pay everything once a month.

Stay strong. I'll be praying for you.
