Good results from 2 yr scan

Hi All:

I usually just check in to read the posts; shudder at the memories; and say prayers for those
still undergoing treatment. I wish this site had been around when I was going through treatment back in 2009. Be sure to tell your Doctors (or their NPs) of this site. I saw mine today at the office and asked her to please let anyone diagnosed with anal cancer that this site is a wonderful resource for information and support. At my Dr's office we had our own informal anal canal cancer support group (one woman finishing treatment right before I started talked with me and then I did the same for someone starting treatment just after I was through.) We never met in person, but the phone calls were invaluable.

I received my two year scan results today and they were NED. This is such a relief! I go to my "butt" doctor this Friday for my date with the anoscope, but hoping all is well there too.

From reading posts, it seems as if my side effects are falling in the middle as far as severity goes. I definitely have some (fistula from the rad txt that can't be fixed), still some bowel issues, etc.., but overall I'm doing well. I just want those that are still in treatment or have recently finished to stay strong and positive and know that things will improve; it just takes time. Before I started my radiation treatment, my doctor asked me about my understanding of what was going to happen and I told him I was considering this my "cancer boot camp"; it was going to be very difficult, but I would emerge stronger and victorious. And believe it or not, I tried to laugh my way through it too. Now, granted, sometimes I was laughing and crying at the same time, but while a positive attitude may not affect outcomes, it certainly does affect the quality of life that we live.

Best wishes and prayers for all still fighting the fight.

    Great to hear
Congratulations. Your post means a lot to me. My first appointment with an oncologist/colo-rectal surgeon is still a week away. Would you mind telling me what stage was your cancer? Was it treated with radiation and chemo or did you have to have surgery?

    what wonderful news to hear.
what wonderful news to hear. Congratulations. In some ways, I too, come in here and do the same thing you do...I usually respond when I think I can contribute something however, like sooth someone's fears or help with ideas on how to care for a sore bottom or nausea or express some of my own experiences in hope that it helps someone else. I know I leaned heavily on this site when I was going through treatment and even after, when I might have an unusual symptom or something crops up that scares me. I thank God for this forum and for the individuals within it who share their own experiences, pain and triumphs. Best wishes to you!! Marilyne
